Venables is the third choice? Or close to that? Interesting.

Fickell seems like he would pick Notre Dame over OU imo.

Venables is a top 3 DC. There’s clearly a reason he hasn’t put his name in for jobs before. Maybe he was waiting on Oklahoma?

Heupel isn't in the running?

He's an OU alum. Better than average offensive knowledge. Get him or Kiffin.

I agree, I don't see it being Bob Stoops again.

On a side note, if Riley, kelly, and dabo all jump schools this year it would be insane.

Riley to USC
Kelly to LSU
Dabo to OU
Saban to Notre Dame

Yeah... Let's just go completely insane...

I despise OU and OU fans with the searing fire of ten million supernovas. Having lived amongst you all for 30+ years as a fan of an out of state team, has been excruciating. The weeks leading up to the 2003 BCSNCG were absolutely insufferable, though I got to meet Brian Bosworth a couple weeks before the game when I happened to be passing by a sports memorabilia store where he was doing an autograph signing (I pointed to my purple and gold hat and gave him a "Geaux Tigers!" to which he had no response ).

That said, Riley did y'all dirty, and as much as I can't stand you, I feel for you. I want you to keep on the trajectory you've been on since the Jeff Blake days. You're lucky to have Bob Stoops to step up, because that man is all class and as loyal as it gets.

If you got Bob back permanently, it would be a good thing. I don't really want Oklahoma to get Venables or Aranda because for selfish reasons (and no shortage of disdain) I really don't want to see OU debut into the SEC with a defensive mastermind at the helm...

Plus, I'm hoping Aranda will build a juggernaut at Baylor and remain there until which time Brian Kelly retires with a few nattys, and Dave can come home and take over.

Swinney isn’t coming! He’s not leaving clemson until Alabama comes calling when Saban retire soon.

Dabo isn’t going anywhere. Specially the SEC with a team he would need to rebuild.

One thing you need to understand about this board is that the majority of posters on here are college kids that don’t know shite . LSU could have hired Belichick and people on this board would complain. This site is for entertainment only, and it most certainly isn’t a good gauge of the overall fanbase .

FYI you invited this thread to be derailed by including this, there are people on this board who just can’t stand the idea of LSU being turned down so they’re running with the narrative that Lincoln was never offered, which is just pure falsehood.

FWIW I have a few friends who have connections at OU (not high) and I’ve heard essentially what you said (entire post), though I’ve not heard Dabo’s name directly

I think Dabo would leave, especially for OU. If Venables really checked out OU, then no doubt Dabo will take a huge contract somewhere else and OU is a destination job. Good luck. Would be a crazy schedule every year with all these coaches in one conference.

Glad to see my edit earlier was proven right.

Rhule isn't interested. OU is still trying on Dabo, but there's still hesitation that he's using them for a massive raise.

I could see Dabo making the switch to OU, and that would make the SEC absolutely crazy. All championship coaches sans Mack Brown would reside there.

I've said it before that I know the ties to Dabo and Bama, but I don't know that he would want to follow Saban. I don't know why anyone would, you win titles in the first 3 years, you did that with Saban's players. If you don't you're probably worthless and will get run out of T-town. There's really no upside for an established coach.

LSU just brought in a coach from a school that is an independent and did very well in the ACC last year. Don't say he won't. Unlike Riley, some coaches like a challenge.

And now some of the OU “insiders” have finally heard about Dabo. Sooner Scoop has now posted an update that they’ve heard about Dabo.

Sometimes, these guys are really slow

I know y’all got your coach in Brian Kelly (96% very happy, a few uneducated fools are not), but I figured I’d give you another inside scoop on OU. I previously reported that Lincoln Riley told OU he was leaving, which was true, although he apparently used LSU to help get the deal he got from USC.

Fix it for you!

List should begin and end with Bob Stoops. The man is only 61 and has tremendous chest. Let him pull a Bill Snyder.

I gained a lot of respect for Bob Stoops in the wake of all of this. The man proved everything he needed to as a head coach and was happy in retirement, but came back anyway because he loves OU and they needed him now more than ever after Riley pulled the rug out from under them. I’d like to see him back on OU’s sidelines full time again.
