For a program that has struggled with offense this is a really bad idea. However, I assume Stein would run the offense which might save them. Still think Stein could find someone better.

Then why not just give him the QB Coach title? OC is a weird situation there

Kentucky athletics doesn't have much choice. They are running at a deficit projected to be $31 million over the next two years. They had to borrow $141 million from the school to fund the AD.

They also allegedly spent $22 million on their basketball roster this year. I'm surprised Stein took the job honestly. Could have held out for a better situation.

Sloan must have a hell of an agent. I know he's also very personable one-on-one. But we didn't sign a highschool qb the last 2 classes. That's a disaster and 100% on him. He had no hand in recruiting Jayden Daniels to LSU either. Not to mention the fiasco with Mason Taylor. I'd keep that guy far away from my locker room.

He probably would be both OC and QB coach like he was here. The OC title is probably just that, a more prestigious title to get paid more and look nicer on a resume. But functionally it might look like Pete Carmichael being Sean Payton's OC more than it would be being the primary playcaller or having full control of the offense.

What was this about?

I don't remember a fiasco with Mason Taylor.

Stein was supposedly hiring Justin Burke from UTSA.

Stein and Burke played together at Louisville and coached together at Texas and UTSA. Burke took over as OC at UTSA when Stein left for Oregon.

I don’t know what happened with Justin Burke to Kentucky. It’s odd for the hire to fall through since Stein and Burke know each other so well.

It’s equally odd for Stein to choose Joe Sloan as OC. They’ve never worked together, and Sloan is coming off a tough season, especially calling plays. Will Stein has a lot of upside, but play-calling isn’t one of his strengths.

Mason Taylor hated Sloan, to put it mildly. And there was good reason. Bk and Austin Thomas tried to get Taylor to come back for his senior season with a big NIL check but Taylor would not come back since Sloan was being retained. When he declared for the draft, he thanked every coach in his post besides Sloan.
