Verge has said that if they don't make the tournament, they will have to reevaluate. I'm pretty sure that is code for hire a new coach.

The people who can’t let Will Wade go are the same people who talk about their glory days on the field in high school. Time to let it go.

Yes. Time for McMahon to move on.

Wade was a good recruiter and motivator, like Dale Brown. Like Dale Brown, he wasn't a great coach, although he is better than McMahon. Last I saw, he was calling out his entire team at NC State because they were not playing well.

We can do better.

With Wade as coach, LSU finished 9th, 1st, 2nd (COVID season), 3rd and 5th in the SEC. Only the team that finished 1st ended the season ranked. He only made it past the second round of the NCAA tourney once in four seasons (one of his 5 seasons the postseason was canceled).

In the year that they won the SEC they were 4-4 against ranked opponents.

Is this somehow suppose to be evidence he was a "bad coach"?

In his 5 seasons at LSU he had 56 SEC wins. Only two coaches/programs had more during that time period. Cal/Kentucky and Barnes/Tenn (who Wade was a combined 6-5 against)

As for the NCAA Tournament, you left out the fact he wasn't allowed by the former administrations to coach in two of those. The one he did coach in his major flaw was losing to the No. 1 seed in his bracket.

WHAT.A.BUM!

No, but it is evidence that he is not necessarily the savior he is made out to be on this board.

based off our current basketball situation. He would be a savior.

"Savior" in this context is relative.

I don't think anyone is truly arguing he's the coach in college basketball. But that is not the standard at play here. The question is "is he the best coach LSU can realistically hire?" That's a different discussion.

If Mark Few said he was tired of Spokane and really wanted to live in Baton Rouge, or if Tommy Lloyd said he preferred a humid heat to the dry heat of Tuscon, or if Bruce Pearl said he wanted to coach a different set of Tigers, or even if Nate Oats said he preferred purple to crimson, then there would be a different discussion as to Wade. But it's unlikely any of those guys would leave for LSU. Same for most really successful power conf. coaches. That's because this IS NOT football. (1) Power conf. poaching doesn't happen all that often in basketball in general and (2) LSU doesn't have the same market status in basketball that it does in football.

Wade's success at LSU relative to the 3 coaches who preceded him and the one who followed him, along with his favorability among many fans and donors in the state of Louisiana make him a desirable candidate for LSU. That's not to say Wade should be the ONLY option LSU should consider. But totally closing the book on the guy who has the highest winning % in your program in 100 years would seem awfully foolish.
