Yes, it is.

A 2000 sq ft home is now $1500-2500 per month.

Gas $5.00 per gallon

Food prices off the damn charts.

There is a big difference between 100K in Manhattan and 100K in New Iberia.

It's not

BUT

When living in a decent suburb with half-decent schools means homes start in the high 400s, you can make the case.

Some of that is optional - when I was a kid we may go to the beach for spring break, we might stay here. It seems now every suburban family goes to the beach/Disney/Bahamas. Birthday parties are extravagant. Dudes making 60k buy 15k engagement rings on credit. Our culture is causing a lot of this.

And our culture is creating the environment where a decent home is 400/500k and you can't get a contractor because everyone is putting in a 120k pool. But there is a swath that has nothing to do with it and is suddenly staring at the reality that 400k can't get you a home in a a decent public school district in some places.

You can barely afford to live on $100,000 in some major cities east and west coat. 100K is barely above the poverty line.

Name somewhere that 100K is still upper middle class. Somewhere you would actually want to live.

Depends on the area. 100,000 dollars is still a decent amount of money in many rural areas in the South. In my town it is still possible to rent a house for $500 a month.

Some of us have different standards. Country living is still relatively cheap and no pressure to keep up with the neighbors.

I live in the NE in an expensive area. Getting a house starts later, but you can live comfortable on 100k. I’m classified as upper making a little over 120. The bar for people (big house, nice neighborhood) has just moved so much. People don’t actually need the massive houses they are buying.

I’m remodeling our master bathroom right now. Labor is $16,000 and materials are slightly over $20,000. Things are incredibly expensive.

We decided to go ahead and do it because our home is now worth a fortune so what the hell. They go up 15-20 thousand dollars a month right now. There’s no end in sight.

prices have gone up dramatically. that doesn't mean everyone's salary has gone above 100K. It's still relative to what everyone else is making, and the national family average is around $70K I believe, which puts $100K well above average.

Nah try moving to Nashville, Charlotte, Denver, Dallas, Austin or Tampa on 100k.

100k is nothing. You’re lower middle class. Try sending kids to daycare, paying a mortgage or buying a car in any of these cities on 100k and get back to me.

Country living is fine unless you actually have to work in the city.

Then there is that crazy gas thing...

Exactly! A friend of mine just had to buy in Old Hickory just to be able to afford to live in the Nashville area.

Ignorant people are consumed with the amount you make....the real number is discretionary income: the amount in your checking account at months end.

The DEMS cry "wages are up, things are great" while you can't afford to eat and drive your car.

Screw this adminsitation and Blacks should take note....The DEMS have NOT improved the race, ever.

Even old hickory is expensive now.

Large metros with high paying jobs are incredibly expensive to live and raise a family and it’s only getting worse. A three bedroom 1,112 square ft home shouldn’t be selling for 550k.

Less than 6% of individuals in the US make 100k or more.

By your standard, 94% of the population lives in poverty.

In the south especially, we just do not have many semi-rural areas that don't have crime/trashiness problems and have decent schools, enough sophistication to foster professionals living/working there, etc.

You see more of that in the NE where you do have some quaint small towns with good governance and education (very lefty, often) because of proximity to larger areas, train service, etc.
