Will they have a chalk box that each position player must stay in while the ball is not in play?

probably just use second base as a reference and not let certain infield positions move past it.

So how do they penalize a team? Like a balk? Everyone advance’s?

I don't think it's something to penalize, just a rule that states the 1b/2B and 3b/SS can't cross the second base bag, kind of like how switch hitters can't change batters boxes mid-AB.

So if a team shifts the ump stops the game and tells them to go back?

Yeah, not a big deal

I hate the shift. It is so ridiculous. However, why more guys just don’t push a bunt down the third base line is mind boggling.

The analytics say these guys going for the HR is still better than the sure base hit.

Because they pitch you to hit into the shift. You’re going to pop up a bunt or not get it down because it’s inside

Players who don't follow the new positioning rules must use their arm as a bat the rest of the game.

They likely can't throw a pitch until everyone is in the proper position.

What will likely happen is that the middle infielder will move to behind second and then move beyond second as the pitch is thrown and the fans will still watch a three outcome game.

This and maybe even restrict infielders from lining up in the outfield. It does seem to be complicated at all.

What's to stop the players from shifting as soon as the pitch is thrown?

The part that I don’t understand is that it’s not the players Union requesting the change, it’s the league. They are the ones who introduced it so heavily with analytics to begin with. So they are trying to put a new rule in banning what their dumbasses started.

Maybe with like Barry Bonds. Certainly not with "these guys"....... But trying a bunt isn't a "sure base hit"..... They can miss or bunt foul and get behind in the count, pop up a bunt, or bunt towards the pitcher or too close to the catcher......

If they had "sure thing" control over using their bat to put pitches where they wanted, they wouldn't be shifted on in the first place. Nobody would shift on Chipper Jones or another hitter with talent to consistently put the ball where he wants it.

That might be true but I honestly don’t know how. If you have any kind of hitter behind the batter that the shift is applied to, then he will be hitting with a runner on more times than not. That seems more valuable that someone like Gallo hitting 30 HRs instead of 40 in a season.

The shift is actually interesting. The batter could learn to do a solid bunt to defeat it which would be fun to watch from a drama standpoint.

Pretty dumb of MLB to ban it.

Because the numbers say going for the home run is still the best play statistically, even when the opposition is removing the possibility of any other extra base hit.

Baseball, hockey and basketball have been harmed by the reality that analytical play makes the game far more boring. Football is the one major American sport made more exciting by analytics. Namely, punting/kicking is statistically the wrong decision the majority of the time.

What next, ban double plays because it’s unfair to the offense? Just learn to hit the ball the other way, or bunt.

Does basketball tell the defense they can’t put all 5 defenders on the right side of the floor to make the dribbler go left?

Does football tell the defense they can’t run a nickel coverage, they have to play 4 DL, 3 LB, and 4 DBs?

When the pitcher begins his windup, or makes a move after pausing during his stretch...

There must be two fielders between first and second base, and two fielders between second and third base, all of whom must be no further back than the back edge of the infield dirt.

If that does not happen, an umpire calls time until it does.

First offense is a warning. Second offense, the manager is ejected. Third offense, the out of position players are ejected.
