Sad situation with taylor hawkins. i'm not sure he's "replaceable" as a drummer as far as dave is concerned both as a drummer and as a friend.

Do you think FF continue with a new drummer or call it quits?

How easy is it, to find a drummer that is also skilled at fighting Foos?

Not sure if he can or would do it, but I think it would be pretty for Dave to sing and play drums for Foo Fighters, in tribute to his own musical legacy and Taylor's as well. They could land a good rhythm guitarist and get back at it.

I've never been a big Foo Fighter fan, but my good friend was. He just died a couple months ago too.
He was a terrible guitar player. He was in a band one time, that got a gig on the other side of the mountain from where we lived. He was so bad, they replaced him. He was such a nice guy though, instead of just telling him the truth, they told him the club burned down.
Once upon a time, me and him captured the biggest, oldest, meanest, loggerhead turtle in Alabama, and sold him for beer money.

Awesome friend. I miss bullshitting with him. we spent a lot of time talking on the phone since we lived a couple of hundred miles from each other lately. Now I just have more empty time that I try to fill.
We knew each other since kids in church, even before we ever started school.
I try not to let it get me down though, I try to write more happy stuff.

Hawkins is pretty irreplaceable in that band. He has been with them since the very beginning and he and Grohl were best friends. I know Grohl will continue on playing music but doubt it will be called the Foo Fighters. They were a pretty tight band and those guys had been together for years.

No he hasn't.. I dont think he actually played on a record until the third one..

If Grohl and the rest want to continue to make music, I would think they would go on as FF... No sense in changing band name..

IMO Grohl is the only irreplaceable member of Foo Fighters, though I recognize that TH is a big part of it...

Hawkins was with them since what '97? Grohl played all the instruments on the first one.....not sure about the second.

I think they will do a Bonham thing and call it a day as FF. Grohl will do something again, maybe with Nate, Pat, Chris and Rami, but Im not sure they will call it FF.

As far as when Taylor joined. The first record he was on was the third one "There Is Nothing Left to Lose ". His first appearance was in the video for Monkey Wrench from "The Colour and the Shape" but Dave played the drums on that song. (He was also in the Everlong and My Hero videos from the same record)

The drummer from Sunny Day Real Estate (Goldsmith?) was the first touring drummer and on the second record (though Grohl may have re-recorded his parts).

I suspect they will occasionally do shows for special events etc… maybe even finish off an album and do a last tour if they have material in the bag already

but probably not a situation where they put out several albums and tour for a decade. I imagine even more than filling the talent/personality gap for fans, it’s just going to be tough to find someone who meshes with Dave who I imagine will micromanage the hell out of the guy

This. I could see Dave doing a solo thing and play Foo songs on tour because I don’t think that guy can sit still. Shifflet will more than likely continue his solo stuff too. Idk what Sunny Day Real Estate’s status is but I know Nate Mendel had reunited with them. FF is just not the same without Taylor Hawkins though and I don’t think they’ll do anything under that name for a good while.

They should just call it quits imo. It’s been a great run for them, maybe hire a drummer for get together shows but not make new material or anything.

he did. 1st and second record drums were done by dave. he snagged taylor from alanis morrisette's band in 1997 for his touring drummer and gave goldsmith the boot.

nate will do a tour with SDRE while FF gets things sorted out. maybe SDRE returns full time and that is where nate dedicates his time to.

They will take a long break but I say it’s unlikely they quit. Dave Grohl isn’t going to stop making music and I doubt he wants to form a new band to replace what he had with FF at his age.

3 options:

replace hawkins
disband
go solo

I don't see him starting a "new band"
