Old South BR or Central City Nola

Both are dangerous hoods sandwiched in between prime real-estate (BR: downtown and LSU; Nola: Warehouse District and Uptown). Both have been targets of gentrification for the last decade but are still unlivable shitholes (Central City less so). I'd say Central City is more frustrating as it seems there's more spillover into good areas like the Garden District, Freret, Irish Channel, etc.

A lot of the young adults currently causing trouble in Baton Rouge are the children of people who moved here after Katrina.
Katrina was in 2005.
Kids born in 2005 will be turning 17 years old this year.

People always say this but I think I read once that BR gained 3k permanent residents from Katrina. This is just the legacy of John Parker still blessing the city almost 40 years later.

Or just generational hood rats - children of BR hood rats that gave birth to more BR hood rats

You would think they’d take advantage of the free spaying after a few litters

Central City has improved greatly over the past 5-10 years. 5-10 years ago you would've had 15+ murders so far this year. It use to be one of the most dangerous places in New Orleans. Out of the 57 murders this year only 2 have taken place in Central City.

There are plenty of renovations going on and new construction being built. The area improves every year. 5-10 years from now it will even be better.

I don't find it frustrating as I do amazing. I've lived in New Orleans my whole life (almost 5 decades) and never would've imagined Central City doing so well. It definitely has a ways to go but it is headed in the right direction.

No - a lot of it has to do with those rapper ‘gangs’ - who are originally from BR, born before Katrina

Do they still not have barbed wiring facing to keep the residents out of the school? I absolutely refused to go to that place after touring, at the time it was the only way to remain in gifted classes in EBR.

This is bullshite. You can point on the map the housing and area town directly influenced by Katrina. And the offspring that grew from there.

What part of GBR do you live in? Because it sounds like you don’t know what the frick you are talking about.

Actually this statement is bull shite - you have no idea where the Katrina evacuees live

quote:

Sherwood & Coursey - been here - 16 1/2 years - I’ve seen it decline in the past 3 - 5 and that’s because of the wonderful businesses that have been put in the area

Time for BR to put on its big boy underpants and realize the problems are homegrown. That area by LSU has always been shite for as long as I remember, and Plank road died in the 1990s, if not before then.

Take the blinders off - there was hood rat crime in BR for forever. There’s going to be with a major university and as the state capital. Dumbasses thinking shite didn’t happen pre-Katrina need to come out of their caves.
