Jackson Miss. water problem caused by racism

The water outage at Jackson is a bit of a sleeper. Initial thoughts was that the plant was overcome by excess rain in the area. Causing a pump to fail/flood.
The local media is blaming all the issues on white flight and loss of funds to maintain. Racism right.
Picking up scraps of info, it seems the raw water source changed its composition with the rainfall like all surface water supplies do. The rain runoff will move toward less disolved solids and much more sediment requireing operating adjustments that did not take place. The water facility is reported to have insufficient trained/certified operators in several epa/health dept evaluations.
Likely occurrence raw water got muddy, settling ponds lacked additives to promote settling, sludge carried over to clarifiers and plugged up sludge blow lines. sludge carried over again to polishing filters and into city water supply.
Water treatment is a most simple technology mostly unchanged in a hundred years.
The racist failure needs to be tracked down to the city and water dept leadership that are now in their job for totally mismanagement of the operation.
To work through the issue is not rocket science. I would call both Betz and Nalco water treating engineers and ask them to work together in generating a long term and short term direction. They were good folks

In retrospect, It would be a good idea to examine the white flight.
It’s a free country. Anyone can move there. THEYd need to find out why whites don’t feel safe there.
Plus, don’t they want whites out? Kush?

Follow Jackson Jambalaya if you want to know the story.
Drastically understaffed at the water plant and a broken billing system.

Why is it that the black community of Jackson (or Detroit, or New Orleans) can't seem to create enough thriving businesses to rebuild their tax base? How is it the fault of whites leaving the area that blacks can't create wealth of their own?

Hasn't the mayor of Jackson referred to the city as Little Congo or some such nonsense in the past? Can white flight really be all that surprising given this kind of leadership?

They don’t want white people; they want white people’s money.
Incidentally, isn’t it racist to assume majority black communities can’t form a viable tax base? You know, the whole soft bigotry of low expectations thing?

They won’t want to admit this but they actually had white customers in next door Rankin County who were paying $3m annually for water service.
Refusing to treat the county as anything more than a customer pissed then off the the point where they built their own infrastructure, as the county wanted a say in ensuring things were done right if they were paying so much for it.

Starting a business costs money. That means saving up money. If you are saving up money, you can't buy high dollar Nike shoes, big shiny car rims or thumpin speakers.. or Hi-Point .380s.

You must keep voting Democrat. They haven’t had enough time to turn things around.
Stay the course, Jackson.

This happened in south africa too. It is because of racism, just not the kind they think.

He and his late father (also a mayor of Jackson whose real name was Edwin Taliferro and was a carpetbagger from Detroit) both took the name Chokwe Lumumba.
Draw your own conclusions.

What does racism mean anymore. "Nothing" when you call everything racism it disappears because it means nothing.

I would probably also call in Haliburton to unplug lines and clean tanks. They have the equipment and the knowledge.
White House press conference today got me interested in this thread because of the intense questioning about why Brandon has called the mayor and not the governor. I now understand.

this water thing is nothing new. its been going on for YEARS and has zero to do with flooding except the fact that the flood broke a crumbling and already broken system. my parents live a few blocks away from the treatment plant and its probably the 7th or 8th time at least that there has been a boil water notice THIS YEAR. its an unmitigated disaster exacerbated by the complete incompetence and lacks of leadership of the city. again, nothing new.
fact is, white areas are taxed at a much higher rate and get shitty drinking water for their thanks. why would wyipeepo stick around exactly to deal with the poor roads, incompetent leadership, diseased water, high taxes and encroaching crime?
