Best and worst “breaks” you’ve had in golf

Best: Missed a tee shot well right, ball somehow got to cart path and caught curbing and rode down the path to 120. This was a 469 par 5. I hit wedge to 8 feet and made the putt for eagle. Only time I have reached the hole in 2.
Worst: hit a fairway drain and bounced dead right OB and into a ditch 40 yards away
I bet there are some memorable breaks for everybody.

Best. I think I hit a ball mark on the green on a par 3. Only thing we could think of that would cause a 5 iron to spin 20 feet almost dead sideways into the hole for my 5th ace.
Worst. -13 going to 16 and got rained out. Came back the next day and finished bogey, bogey, bogey.

Were there any good breaks to get to minus 13?

Best: At Buffalo Ridge in Big Cedar Lodge, I sprayed my 3w right into the mountain, it rides a ridge of solid rock, and deposited itself 3’ from the flag. Eagle!!
Worst: I hit the flag on a par 3, it slams off the stick off the green and into the water!

Best:
Had about 240 into a par 5 with water down the entire right side. Plan was to hit a low, running hybrid onto the front of the green. Hit it a little thin and left the face open. Carried about 200 yards, low and hot, but headed directly at the lake. About 20 yards short of the green is a flock of geese. My ball tattoos one of them, ricochets left and forward, rolls on to the green to about 6 feet. Made the eagle putt
Worst:
Playing in a big amateur stroke play tournament. Par 3, 210 yards or so. Win a Rolex with a hole in one. I hit the most perfect 5 iron I’ve ever hit. Smacks the pin about 6 inches above the hole and ricochets 10 yards back towards me and into the water. A yard shorter and it may have been a hole in one and a Rolex. Ended up making double and missing out on a playoff by one shot.

Best: Can’t remember one!
Worst: Doesn’t involve a golf shot, but was on the golf course. On a really windy day, I went into a bathroom on the course, leaving my pushcart right outside the door on flat ground, nowhere near any trouble. When I came out, my cart was gone. Nobody out there to steal it; I’m like, what the hell? Could the wind have blown it? So I walk downwind about 30 yards through a group of trees, and look in the water-filled ditch. I see about one inch of one wheel sticking out of the water. Shoes off, wade in, pull cart, bag, clubs out. Rangefinder is fried, round is over.

Best: Squire Creek. State Am. 5th hole which is a 170 yd par 3 but way down hill. There’s a small creek in front of the green which has two tiers (left side low and right side high). Chunk the tee shot. It’s going in the creek. Nope. Hits the 3ft wide bridge that walkers use. Goes straight up in the air and softly lands on the slope and rolls left toward the pin to about 7ft. A likely double turns into a birdie.
Worst: Nothing really stands out. Hole in one chance that bounces of the flag stick. An approach shot that hits a sprinkler head. Hitting that one, last pine needle that seems to act like a brick and knock the ball straight down. Have had all of those happen.

So far 2 guys hit the stick and ricocheted into the hazard.
This is pretty bad.
This seems pedestrian compared to those, but recently I hit the kids tee marker in the fairway on a nice drive. Ball finished 90degrees left of line. The ball had a huge scuff on it so I tossed it after the hole.

Best - on a Par 5 at Dupont DERA Course in Orange TX. I cold topped a 3 wood that never got 2 feet off the ground, bounced up on the green and went in the hole for a Double Eagle.
Worst - I hooked a 2nd shot on the Lighthouse hole at Tour 18 and killed a Blue Heron standing in the water by the green. I was so upset, I grabbed my bag and walked in...

Worst: Playing in a College tournament. They’re 54 holes where you play 36 holes in one day, then 18 on day two.
First day I hit all 18 GIRs in morning round. Hit 17 GIRs in the afternoon.
After the 36 holes, some tournament official makes the comment that in the entire history of NCAA golf, he thinks 50+ GIRs has only been done once or twice.
Now I had no idea whether or not this was true. And back then, it’s not like I could of googled it or asked the stat van.
So anyways, third round starts and I’ve got this 50 GIR thing in my head. So I proceed to miss the first two greens.
Well then I get out of my head and hit the next 8 GIRs. Miss hole 11, the hit 12-17.
So there I am on 18. If I hit 18 GIR, that’s 50/54. I hit the fairway and I’ve got like a 6 or 7 iron in.
I then proceed to hit the best shot in my life. It was one of those so flush I didn’t even feel the ball. The ball lands about 6 inches in front of the hole, hits the pin, and then ricochets off to the right.
The ball ends up on the collar of the green by about 4 inches. So I end up with 49/54 GIRs. It still pisses me off to this day and that was 20+ years ago.

Worst. On 18. Need par to break 80
For 1st time. Drive of my life. Approach looks great but then hits the edge of the green and somehow bounces hard right into bunker. Gather myself. Hit 3rd shot out of bunker only to hit edge of sprinkler head on apron. Ball ricochets into hazard.

Yea, it really bothered me, I didn't play for a couple of weeks afterwards.
I remember walking into the clubhouse to inform them and I know that I had tears in my eyes.

Best: 90 yard approach shot. Blade it. Hits my playing partner who was standing near the green in the ribs….end up 6 feet away and I make a birdie.
Worst: 8 person wolf game. Par 3. Number 16. I’m the worst player, by far. I hit my drive to 5 feet. Go lone wolf. 3 birdies on that hole and I wasn’t one of them. That was expensive.

Came back the next day and couldn’t find a fairway.

Worst: MG match play and needed to winthe match to advance. Hit a flushed 7 iron on a par 5 to the front edge of green that would have likely nestled to about 10 feet for eagle. Caught a sprinkler head on the front, shot 30 yards forward and 0B for us to lose the hole and eventually the match.
Best: hit a ball 50 yards OB right that somehow ended up back in the fairway. I still think it has to have hit a chimney or something. I hit a provisional and was perplexed to find my ball (playing partner called me an idiot on the tee for calling it a provisional instead of hitting 3 )

My only Ace.
BEST : In college. I was bad golfer. Bladed a PW on short Par 3. Ball was a laser moving 5’ above the Earth at the speed of sound. Crashed into the pin as Square as possible and fell straight down.
WORST: Hole in One contest to win a Mercedes. Hit beautiful high ball with baby draw, landed on green and started rolling to the hole. Stopped less than a foot short. I’ve had closer ones but this was for an $80k car

I saw some sprinkler heads at a course covered with a 1/2 inch artificial turf. I’ve always thought that was a great idea.

Hole in One contest to win a Mercedes.
I missed a new 45k Buick SUV by less than an inch a few months ago. That was an honorable mention on my worst luck. I can do bad luck stories for hours, but I’ve played a lot of golf.
