I recently just stumbled across this video in my YouTube recommendations and found it interesting.

It focuses on how the Bucks and Grizz were able to shut Zion down, not completely, but enough to where he couldn’t outright take over the game.

Similar to how Joel and AD talk about “building the wall,” they put an athletic guard on Zion and a big on one of our wings, usually Herb or Naji, allowing that big to shade heavily toward Zion and make his drives to the paint way more difficult. This worked in the Milwaukee game because Zion had to get past Holiday and then get past Giannis and Brook Lopez to finish in the paint. In the Memphis game, Dillon Brooks guarded Z on the outside and as we all saw, JJJ erased him in the paint.

But there are clear ways around it. Against the Bucks, Z was driving and kicking to Jonas, who went off from 3 and kept us in the game for the first half. But Jonas isn’t always gonna hit 6 threes in a half. So the real answer here? Brandon Ingram.

When Zion drives into that wall and has to kick it out, lots of those passes are going to Naji/Herb. Naji is shooting 28.9% from 3 on his career, 33% this season. Herb is shooting 32.1% from 3 on his career, and 28.4% this season. Compare that to BI, who is shooting a career 35% and a whopping 46.5% (yes, forty six percent) from three this season. Not to mention his own ability to drive and hit midrange shots. So when BI comes back, those bigs won’t be able to virtually ignore our wing like they do with Herb and Naji. They have to choose to either get pummeled in the paint by Z or the slow death with BI tearing you down from midrange. So stop overreacting to a loss. Start hoping BI comes back.

The fact that we are still in the position we’re in with BI and Zion not on the court together for the majority of the season is remarkable, and when BI comes back the league is in for it.

I’m hoping that once BI comes back with Zion really finding his way recently we will be on some Nets type shite

We call this..."showing your good stuff", in this case on the defensive end. Not sure how smart it is to showcase what you think your best stuff is to a future opponent...in a basically meaningless game in December. Same thing goes on the offensive end.

Of course, I'm assuming the Grizz think this is their optimum way to defend Zion's Pels. I think teams (especially the Grizz since I'm not really worried about the Bucks come playoff time) are doing us a favor by defending us in this way...at this point in the season. JMO

I am hoping BI is Zions cheat code.

This is why I think they need to make one small trade to add another spacer. With Zion, BI, CJ, Trey and that 4th spacer, teams can't build a wall. Teams will have to guard all 5 guys. Doesn't happen now.

Upgrade Temple.
Not sure if SAS would entertain it or not but I'd give up a future first for Vassel.

Until they show success in stopping us with BI in the lineup in the playoffs, there's no reason to panic. BI solves these issue. There's still a lot of basketball to play and we're nowhere near peaking yet.

Meh. BI or no BI, Zion will figure it out. There is no blueprint to stopping great players. If there were he wouldn’t have scored 26 on 12 shots tonight because everybody would be doing it.

Also Zion has had big games against both the Bucks and Grizzlies in the past. Non-issue

I like this idea. Or add another big who can knock down the 3.

Vassell is a 22 year old former lottery pick averaging 19 PPG on solid efficiency in his 3rd year.

I doubt the Spurs have any interest in trading him, but if they did, he would be VERY expensive.

Would you entertain that deal if you were San Antonio?
