Step 1: Vibes are great but we need to rock the boat.

1) Do NOT pick up Team option on Willy
2) Sign EJ to a standard Contract
3) Sign Karlo Matkovic to a standard contract
4) Pick up Naji Marshal Team option
5) Use portion of MLE to sign Naz Reid

Trade:

IN: Myles Turner, Buddy Heild
OUT: JV / Larry / Kira / Dyson + 14 + 2024/5 Lakers Pick + 1 Milwaukee pick (the earliest)

2023-2024 New Orleans Pelicans

Herb / Jose / Seabron
BI / CJ /
Trey / Buddy / Naji
Zion / EJ
Turner / Reid / Matkovic

In-Season: 9-man rotation of Herb / BI / Trey / Zion / Turner / CJ / Jose / Buddy / Reid

Continue to develop: EJ / Matkovic
Expirings: Buddy

Playoff rotation: I think you keep the same 9 man rotation if things are going well. If someone is hurt (more like someone will be hurt) you should have some insurance now.

MORE importantly this roster IS UNDER THE TAX.

No thank you.

Did the Pacers make the playoffs? Are any of those in the top 3 of their roster?

All of that for little upgrade..

Hard pass. You can get a better return than that with that package.

That package gets you close to getting a guy like Fox, not a chance in hell you give up the equivalent of 5 1st round picks foe Turner and Heild

Why on earth would we do something we absolutely don't have to do? Let him prove his talent and health in Birmingham.

Naz is going to command more than the full MLE

That is way too much for the inefficiencies we'd get in return.

Zion / EJ
Turner / Reid / Matkovic

These are the dumbest rotations ever.

1.579m dollar contract????

LINK

If Minnesota could get Reid on something like three-year, $22 million deal, that seems workable for both player and team. A sensible deal structure could look something like this:

2023-24: $8,000,000
2024-25: $7,360,000
2025-26: $6,720,000

The Full MLE is roughly 12m

Again I pose the same question to you. Who is this mythical player we can get for that trade.

Those arent my rotations, just a depth chart

Its about 40m in salary needed. We wont be tax payers and those are really the only contracts you can give up to get both.

You could drop Larry and one of Dyson/Kira to get just one though.

Has nothing to do with holding off on that trade because we could get something better with the package. Has everything to do with giving up way too much for players that aren't worth that much.

What the frick do you think rotations are based off of?

You could probably get Wendell Carter Jr. and Garry Harris with much less going out. I think that's the general direction they need to look. Aiming lower, because aiming high is just going to be too much.

FA's dont want to come to NOLA, you have to overpay in trades to get things here (until view of NOLA changes obv)

We play 5 out for the most part. Trey would more than likely be playing the 3 with Zion and stay on the court and play the 4 when ZIon leaves. Data suggests that Trey is a plus asset playing the 4.

Herb starting at PG is so that we can leverage the teams non desire to guard him. CJ is essentially a super 6th man who still gets starting minutes.

Does this math work? It's possible my quick math is off, but I don't see how that would be under the tax.

We're at $157M for 2023 as it stands, Tax is estimated at $162M.

Jonas, Larry, Dyson, Kira and Willie's salary for 23 add up to $34,154,062; which brings our total to roughly $123M (when their salaries are removed)

Turner is owed $20M for 2023, Hield is owed $19M, signing EJ and Karlo will cost roughly $4M going by Herb's salary.

Adding that in and now our 23 total is $166M, which is over the tax. Once we get over the tax our MLE drops to $6,479,000 (Slightly off, actually $6,969,000 for 23), which wouldn't be enough for Naz

Using Spotrac

Trading #14 has a caphold of 3.9m
Not picking up Willy's option would be another 2.55m

We would have to make Naz's first year under 7m. To get to be under.

I'd bet it won't be over the tax. With the new CBA they are adding $160 million in licensing merch revenue to BRI which should raise the cap by about $2.6 million. The past few years we've gotten about a $2 million bump from the projection based on the playoffs being competitive and having good ratings. Hopefully that happens again and you can add about $4-$5 to the cap which would push the tax line out about $5-$6 million.
