Possible banking error in my favor question

Long story short, I bought a Garmin watch from REI on 6/10 and the purchase showed on my card immediately. I go and check a few days later and the transaction is gone and my balance has been credited back that amount. At the same time, my watch has shipped from REI.
I figured they would recharge my account once I pick up the watch. Well, I picked up the watch on 6/16. As of today, my account has not been charged for the watch(except for when it disappeared).
So I called REI today and everything looks good on there end and say they have been paid. I guess there was an error on the banks end? Is it my responsibility to call them? I could care less if the bank gets screwed as long as REI was paid but morally, I feel like I need to call the bank. I should call the bank, shouldn't I?

It’ll show up eventually.

My guess is that REI actually doesn't have the money. They looked at the original transaction and saw an approval and that's all they see. They're not following it all the way through. There are a number of things that can go on behind the scenes that would cause this that a normal customer care rep or even a business owner wouldn't quite realize it.
If banks had some sort of a financial leak like this, it would be uncovered relatively quickly. At least with larger banks for sure.
You've done your due diligence at this point. The charge will either show up or it won't.

Just return the box to REI but make sure you stick in your old watch.

This. The CSR you talked to can see the charge was processed, but they absolutely are not looking at the bank account of REI and the merchant settlement statements to see that the deposit was made.
Very high chance the charge comes back at some point. I've had this happen 2-3 weeks after the fact sometimes.

Thanks for the responses. I'll see if anything happens this week then call the bank Monday. REI said my card was charged and accepted on the 15th. Not sure I've seen it take so long to hit my account.

This is on REI. I’d bet the charge shows back up at some point

Agree.
I once bought a baseball bat. They didn’t charge me. I called and explained the situation so they took payment.
3 days later another bat showed up. I called AGAIN and explained it. They asked me to return the extra bat; which I did. 1 week later: refund.
I said F it and kept the free bat.

I had an issue with a restaurant that for a few months they did not process their transactions. Then they processed them all at once and I saw multiple charges on the same day. I found out that they had issue with their Point of Sale equipment and credit card processor.
Looking back, my first charge on my American Express in college was at the Hooters in Metairie in 2000. They took the card but the charge never showed up. I always wondered what happened to that transaction.

Update - It processed overnight. At first, I thought I was going to get lucky especially after calling REI but then my conscience started weighing on me. Relieved it finally processed.

God is testing you. Keep the watch for free. You have your reward. Or correct the error which may open the door to many rewards.
