The democrats are the real conservatives, boys!

quote:

The Democratic Party, for decades the progressive bastion of the United States, is emerging today as the party of the status quo. This strange turn of events was on display in late June, as Democrats lamented the Supreme Court rulings ending affirmative action in college admissions and marked the anniversary of the same Court overturning Roe v. Wade. They also celebrated the Court’s decision not to further weaken the Voting Rights Act. The message is not a push for any specific transformative policy, but rather that the MAGA GOP and right-wing judiciary are ready to undo much progress that has already been achieved. To borrow a phrase, today’s Democratic Party stands athwart recent history, shouting, “Stop!”

Wait...what?

This is as moronic as that T/P guy trying to claim Marxism last week for very non-Marxist stuff

If conservative means maintain the status quo,

then I can see that argument.

I’m trying to make sense of that word salad they wrote.

Therein lies the problem. Seeing progress or regression is dependent one ones perspective. From my perspective, SCOTUS has been ruling in line with the US Constitution which is the supreme law of the land and needs zero adjusting.

I don’t care how they define it. Overturning immoral laws and court decisions is a good thing.

Well I certainly feel like I want to progress beyond the barbarism and kid mutilation they offer

Me too. The closing paragraph is very confusing to me.

quote:

The age of Democratic conservatism probably does not portend a full-scale realignment of the parties, with Republicans taking up left-wing causes and Democrats adopting right-wing ones—though some intriguing examples of conservative dabbling in worker-focused populism exist. It may, however, help explain and prolong the current era of gridlock, with one party pursuing unpopular and often unconstitutional policies and the other promising stasis we can believe in.

They are desperate to shift the Overton window. The gaslighting will continue until they either get what they want or get destroyed.

The left can't admit that we've been following them for the last 60 years and it's only made everything worse.

Groomers/Dims have destroyed the written and spoken language. Its crazy how many words and terms have been given different meanings and definition by the Groomers. I challenge you, try having a honest and meaningful political conversation with a Dim/Groomer and I can guarantee their pretzel logic and their penchant for redefining the meaning of words will leave you dumbfounded.

I think he's talking about the same party.

Republicans want change, or conservatives I should say. We want change back to sanity. Enough with the "we're all gonna die, man-made climate change crap." Enough with having to coddle the mentally ill and call them normal. Enough with the printing of money that we can't back with anything of substance. Enough of letting foreigners into our country illegally and pretending that somehow it makes us a stronger nation.
Enough with the mutilation of children who aren't old enough to make life-changing and permanent decisions.
Enough already.

This is what Democrats do: they get backlash for being to liberal so they redefine themselves as the new conservative party.

The Atlantic has degenerated into poorly written, selective fact-based fiction. If you’ve ever read The Harvard Crimson, written by pretentious, ignorant 20 year olds, you’ll find the same stuff in the Atlantic. It was once a very interesting periodical and I enjoyed my subscription. Twenty years ago.

Status quo? Maybe. Conservative? No. This is some backwards logic.
