I’m hammered and wanna talk LSU football, bear with me.

My optimistic LSU fan take:

Offense takes a minor step back. Sloan doesn’t miss a beat calling plays. Nuss lights it up, lacey/cj daniels/hilton are a top 5 group in CFB, and kaleb jackson is the dawg we all thought he’d be. all while having the best OLine in the nation.

Blake Baker is everything we thought he would be and more. Defense makes the jump from generationally bad to average, and are able to compliment our offense enough to be one of the best teams in the nation. Still lacking the bodies on the interior DL, and elite talent in the secondary, but the kids buy in and play their asses off.

Non biased CFB fan take:

Offense takes a couple steps back. First year play caller, new QB, new WR’s. I don’t see this offense being bad by any means, but maybe take a step back further than we thought they would.

Defense shows improvement, but still not serviceable. D Line depth shows its arse and secondary still lacking that DBU dawg mentality. LB core is the strength and able to make plays, though not enough to overcome DL and secondary.

Most realistic outcome is that the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

Ceiling 10-2

Floor 8-4

Just a drunk dummy that wants to talk ball, will be back sober tomorrow to view responses.

How y’all feeling?

If you want to be realistic, it’s this.

Ceiling 8-4
Floor 6-6

10-2
or

9-3

The last game against Texas will decide if we make the playoff or not. My thoughts offense will be dominant again and defense will take 2 steps forward and be allot better but will be average (within top 50 nationally) but still good enough to make a run at the playoff.

Undefeated
Unscored upon
Punter only on field once for a fake punt against Florida (done on third down cause we never have a fourth down)
Defense give up one first down all year (by penalty)

9-3 regular season is the ceiling. Defense is not ready.

In this new era the expectations every season should be: make the 12 team playoff. Do that and the NCs will take care of themselves.

If an LSU coach is not consistently making the playoff, he’s not getting the job done. This goes exponentially when the playoff is expanded to 16.

10-2/9-3 8-4 at the worst. I see this year being a 2017/2018 type of season with them being dominant in ‘25. Too many variables at play for this team to run away with it, hope I’m wrong though

Vegas has our win/loss at 9.5 so how do you have our ceiling at 10?

With 12 teams it’s playoff or a HUGE failure of a season. CBK said we’d compete for championships by year 3. Excuses are over

BK said during camp last season that year 3 is more realistic of being a playoff contender. Sec title and playoff spot. That’s my expectation and it should be the exception every year

I think the ceiling is 12-0 because every game is winnable and BK has done that before in his career. It would be pretty tough to do it though. We have 3 easy wins, 5 should wins, and 4 tough games we could win. Will make for an interesting season.

This is LSU the ceiling will always be an undefeated national championship. The resources are always there. Even if it’s full of unknown commodities at this point. To that point, did anybody think Burrow would become what he did? Did anybody think CEH would explode into what he did?

That being said, the floor this season is 9-3 again but that comes with a few caveats. These 3 losses cannot be a combination of the following: USC, 20+ points, Vandy, Florida or Arkansas.

BK is in deep shite if he loses another season opener. Barring them running the table from there out. Which is highly unlikely

I just hope we can finish atleast 10-2 and get an 8th seed so we can host a playoff game in Tiger Stadium in December. I don't think that's farfetched with the way our schedule is lined up.

Week 1 (USC) and the road game @ Texas A&M will define this season. We never play well in College Station.

REASONABLE best case scenario:

Offense takes a step back, but is still good enough to be in the top 3rd of the SEC.

Defense improves significantly. But still not good enough to be elite because of lack of “dudes” and depth.

LSU wins the toss up season opener. The rest of the schedule, while not easy, is favorable with almost all of the (likely) tough SEC games being at home. LSU goes 3-1 in home SEC games and 3-1 on the road for a 10-2 overall record. That’s good enough to get them into the playoffs as somewhere between an 8-12 seed.

Worst case scenario:

The losses of Daniels, Nabers and Thomas are massive and the offense, at best, is inconsistent. LSU never finds a true “go-to” WR and Nussmier is boom or bust. Several great throws combined with several awful decisions and turnovers.

The defense improves, but not enough to overcome the big offensive regression.

LSU loses to USC, then goes 2-2 in SEC home games and away games for an overall record of 7-5. Kelly and Woodward start to hear rumblings from the fanbase of a “Jimbo” comparison as the program is falling farther away from a championship contender each year with no prospects of a coaching change soon with 7 years remaining on Kelly’s massive contract

Most likely scenario: 9-3, just missing the playoffs.

LAST YEAR was the championship run, blown by House and the historically bad defense.
