Blame the books as much as the show, although the books did a slightly better job of developing the wolves.

Could have been such an awesome part of the show, started off so promising. Then they all just die off or are forgotten and really don’t impact the story at all

Hated how the books handled them. They were the size of horses and they were killed off so easily and ended up meaningless.
Should have been so much more.

Bran’s did murder the shite out of that assassin in the second episode.

Looking back though probably would’ve been better to let the assassin kill him

Agree. One of many cool things that withered on the vine.

Did you mean the show? In the books, they have done a lot and should do a lot in the future. Lady was killed young by a person she trusted. Greywind took out a bunch of Freys before getting taken down. Nymeria is running a gang of wolves in the Riverlands. Shaggy Dog is hanging out with unicorns on Skagos. Summer helped Bran get through a bunch of white walkers. Ghost has had a huge impact on the wall with Jon.

So you haven't read the books Because that's definitely not how someone would summarize the direwolves in the books.

At this point I think it’s fair to say everyone in the books have

I’ve read all the books multiple times. I wasn’t saying in the books they all died off or were forgotten. I was saying you can blame the books too because they also haven’t handled the wolves all that well IMO. Certainly they are more influential in the books than the show

Ghost is the runt, so his size on the show is accurate.

A wolf the size of a horse should be legitimately terrifying. Shame how they got written off after being described so awesomely.

Writer: "Here's Jack Amazing! He's 7' 3", pure muscle, fires lasers from his eyes, and swings a sword capable of cleaving a tank in twain!"

Reader: "Holy shite! I bet this guy does some amazing crap!"

Writer, 1 book later, during which Jack does little: "Jack then died while taking a shite. Meanwhile..."

Reader: "Dude, WTF?"

Since I’m rewatching the show, just watched the episode where Cersei had Lady killed.

Jesus Christ, if the goal of that scene was to make you hate Cersei and Joffrey and make Robert look weak, well they certainly succeeded

Money. Couldn't keep them in the story once they grew larger than the actual dogs they used in the early seasons.
