Advice for cutting brush from a fence line

Hi folks, I just bought a 5 acre piece of land and it's fenced on 2 sides, one long side and one short side. The farmer who owned it mowed hay from it, but didn't get within a couple of fee of the fence. I have a standard weedeater and one of those push behind weedeaters but went out there today and the brush that is growing in the fence line just breaks the string.
Not sure what kind of brush it is, but it's 2 or so feet tall and looks to be about 1/2 in around.
I can likely run my old mower next to the fence and break some of it off, but that might not work so well. Any advice on how to remove or kill it? Should I just spray the base of it and let it go? I'm not building for at least a year, so I have time if I could kill it off. There is a neighbor on the other side of the fence, so I do want to respect their side of the fence and be careful with what I do.

Sounds like a good time to buy a chainsaw

There's an old guy I know from a long time back that used to spray diesel fuel on fence lines to kill weeds and keep weeds down.
Not that I would ever dream of doing anything like that at all ever.
Like ever.

I do have one, also have a battery powered one hand one that has an 8" chain, I am thinking I might have to use this. Fold the brush down and hit it with the chainsaw.

Buy a blade kit for your weedeater. Then apply herbicide.
I have an older Cub Cadet ST100 and best I can tell, none of these kits will work on it. I did search, and it doesn't appear to have a blade kit that will work on it.

We would never use used motor oil either.

Brushcutter is made for stuff just like this.
I have this and have used it more than anything else at my farm other than my tractor:
Echo SRM-410 U
It will pretty easily take down a 2" diameter sweetgum.

There are herbicides that recommend being mixed with diesel to be most effective on certain plants.

Is it a barbed wire fence or a chain link fence?

I was thinking you meant the string trimmer, but there might be attachments for the weedeater. I'll check. It's a lowes kobalt 40v.

If you want to buy a single piece of equipment, get a brush cutter.
If you want a system, get a Stihl Kombi, at least the 111, and get a power scythe, pole saw, trimmer, and brush cutter attachment.

If there is a lot along the fence hire someone with a forestry mulcher and then spray next spring to keep it from coming back on you.

With that thick of stuff with a
you'll make it about 4.75 feet and need a new battery
