Haven't had a chance to start it but it looks interesting. Apollo 13 is one of my favorite movies because even though I was alive (happened just before my 3rd birthday) I didn't know much about it until the movie came out when I was 28.

I remember watching it when it came out. I didn’t know anything about it before I watched the movie. I was expecting them to land on the moon

I was a space nut growing up, so I knew the story fairly well. Still, there were a lot of insights in the Ron Howard/Tom Hanks film, which is one of the most historically accurate Hollywood films about a real event. Obviously, there were some liberties taken, but the dedication and effort put forth for accuracy were obviously there.

I recommend fans of Apollo 13 to watch HBO's From the Earth to the Moon series, which is a dramatic retelling of the Apollo program by many of the folks who produced Apollo 13. The analogy is: From the Earth to the Moon is to Apollo 13 what Band of Brothers is to Saving Private Ryan.

Of the 4 products, Saving Private Ryan is my least favorite. Is From the Earth to the Moon as good as Band of Brothers? If you are a space nut, it absolutely is.

ETA: To the OP's point, I have not seen the Netflix doc, yet.

A13 is such a great movie. I’ve seen it countless times and no matter how many times I have I still am on the edge of my seat during the re-entry scene. It’s just such a well-made movie.

I watched it last night. It was cool to see the actual footage taken at the time. Did not know two of the astronauts are still alive today.

It’s so, so good. I happened to find myself on a 12 hour plane ride years ago shortly after this series came out. Watched the bulk of the series right then on the plane and was just engrossed.

Binge watching a series before that was a thing you could really do was just fantastic.

Watched it last night. You can tell that Ron Howard's team had access to videos as watching the documentary was like watching the movie. Lines in the movie matched the documentary film. It was a good watch and showed American pride which is not as evident today.

Pretty sad but I never realized what a Bill Paxton fan I was until he was gone.
