“¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” will have its streaming debut on Paramount+ Wednesday, October 2 in the United States. The film has had a very limited theatrical run, but it has performed exceptionally well for a documentary, bringing in just shy of $125,000. “¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor!” has been one of the highest-grossing documentaries of the year.

This may have been what has been keeping Stone and Parker occupied. Will watch.

I tried to go right after Covid and that is when it was going under and they were attempting to buy... Was in Denver a few weeks back and asked someone and they said reservations are 6 months to a year out at this point.
Its almost impossible to get in
Will def watch this.

Watched, enjoyed the documentary even though I've never been...
Crazy they bought for 3.6m and then invested 40m in renovations.
Also crazy the original number of people through the door back in the day was 5k a day.
Would love to go if can ever get a reservation when in town.

They are both fabulously wealthy and this is a passion project for them, so I guess they don't care about the profit.
Recovering 43 million dollars from a restaurant is damn near impossible

I’m going to check this out tonight. The director also did the 6 Days to Air doc in 2011.

I've been there. Around 2015. The food was bad, really bad and they don't care, not even a little. It was fun though.

To be fair that was under the old owners. From what I’ve heard, Matt and Trey have really turned shite around. The food apparently is really good now, the staff gets paid something like 25/hr starting out, the entire place has been renovated but still looks like it did in the episode, it does has some South Park stuff around in it, but the only problem is the waiting list is close to a year long. Or it was last time I checked

Yeah, but 40m is a lot different than they thought of the original 10-15m.
Trey says it in the documentary, if they had any business sense they would have walked away and the possibility that it could be a money maker and Matt being the money guy gave them reason to continue on.
Said 400k people have been through since reopen and finish of the documentary. So they are getting around 1k people a day on average.

It was good. Trey is just a naturally funny guy. He really has become a master of creativity. You can see his mind at work through the entire process.

Just finished it. I loved this movie. I was already interested in the general premise of the film, as I loved that South Park episode, and knew that Stone/Parker would be entertaining. But I'm also an engineer that works in a lot of commercial construction, so I loved how much the film focused on the renovation process. This was a perfect storm of awesomeness for me.
Also, I legit LOLed when they provided the original renovation budget of $6.5m. It's a pretty big arse place that's been neglected since the 70's. It was going to cost at least $7.5m to fix the things that is mostly unseen to the customers (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), and probably $1m to replace the kitchen. So about $9m before dealing with aesthetic/entertainment/structural improvements.
I think (and hope) that Stone/Parker actually had some experts giving them feedback before they bought the place, and were feigning ignorance on the reno costs to add drama to the documentary.

They mentioned that in the doc… they were asked around having inspections done pre purchase and said that it was a bankruptcy purchase, so wouldn’t have mattered.
I think their nostalgia got the best of them from the start.

Hired one of our old District Operators. Guy has no idea how to make money. That should prolong them in recouping their investment.
