From the moment Zion stepped into the league, it was readily apparent what a roster surrounding him needed to be. A bunch of guys that can shoot the frick out of the ball.

Everyone in basketball knew it. Everyone in basketball has talked about it for 6 years.

Six Years.

And we still haven't done it. The project of every move, every trade should have been: get fricking shooters. And we haven't.

CJ, Hawk and Trey, ok. The rest of the team cannot and does not take 3s with any amount of volume

I'm sick of Griff just like I'm sick of Willie.

It would help if Zion developed an NBA shot, being that he has been in the NBA for 6 years now.

People just gloss over this. The dude can barely make a 16 footer consistently. Just think of zion with an outside shot. He would be unguardable.

He hasn't added anything to his game really. Most great players add at least one new skill ever off-season.

Dejounte Murray is pretty lethal. Once he’s back, the surge will begin.

This

Maybe I'm reading a bit but the only 2 things one can argue he improved aren't really things I think he improved due to hard work.

1. His passing has improved, absolutely. But you don't have to put in hard work in the offseason. Just playing 5+ seasons, you'll get to know the NBA game better and improve organically.

2. Defense - I'm not sure his defense has ever changed much. It's just effort. When he doesn't care and doesn't try, not good. When he does, he's solid. He just tries less than he gives effort.

So back to your point, what exactly has he clearly improved upon in 5+ years solely due to just working hard at that craft over these years? I don't see anything.

At shooting from the outside? Not really.

Can Zion play at an MVP level? Yes. Is he a "generational talent" that has been surpassed by multiple players in much less than a generation? Also yes.

I know you mean in general, but I have been saying this the entire time. People don’t seem to care because he is a highlight reel.

Like I said with CJ, we laughed at his overall basketball skills / height when he was with Portland. Now some like him cause he hits 3’s.

It’s like we judge players on a scale when they put on a pelicans uniform. If they do anything above average, we forgive / forget negative stuff.

Just pure basketball on court from our big names, Jose / CJ / Zion would be gone if ‘Chip is goal. BI would be gone if he refuses to play modern basketball.

Can he though?

We've seen spurts, but nothing sustained, which I think that sustainability is a big part of someone playing at an "MVP level"

You can’t have a team full of shooters and expect to check other pertinent boxes

As it stands we have three guys who can go 40% on bulk attempts in Murphy, CJ and Hawkins. Ingram, Herb, and Murray are capable to knock down open looks

The personnel finally isn’t the issue imo

I said it last year and I’ll say it again this year; Trey Murphy and his development is the key to unlocking this roster

I get why people feel like it's Deja Vu all over again, but the 2 guys that are out do kind of make everything else work. If they can get healthy...

I think that book is closed.

He doesn't have enough of an offensive game to truly be MVP level.

Yea we need to see it before we start calling for heads.

That said, we still should beating teams like GS without curry

Willie sticking with Zion, Hawk, Green, Missi, and Jose for like 5 minutes. That was the worst lineup I’ve ever seen and it dissipated our lead immediately. This is where we are missing the depth of DJM and Trey but how is that the lineup that’s put out there to protect our 20 point lead? I swear he called a timeout midway through GS’s run and then put the same damn 5 out there.

Definitely shouldn't lose the last 2/3 of the game by 38 points without him.

I mean how many other guys do you want?

You going to replace Herb? Jose?

I guess you can criticize the Daniels selection.

We did jettison 2 non-3PT guys in Zo/Hart.

I honestly think we have a good deal of shooting. And it’s shown in our percentages. Problems are that we need a unicorn center to fit next to Zion which isn’t really attainable, and our lack of ball handling.

Of course, there’s also coaching, injuries, current lack of point guard and center play, our best player showing very little effort and the rest of the team often following his lead, and on and on.

He was 22nd in the league in made 3’s last year (27th in 3’s made per game). He only shot 36%, but that doesn’t really matter. We just need guys who can and will take 3’s.

Right

If I just asked quickly without looking which team had more shooters, the Pels or the Magic, pretty sure everyone would answer Pels, no brainer.

The Magic are averaging over 40 3s per game so far. We're at 30...

They added CJ, and spent 1st round picks on Trey and hawk. They’ve definitely added shooters we just have a brain dead coach who still hasn’t figured out his rotations and how to enforce an offense that uses spacing
