Who's behind the racist 'cotton picking' texts?

So a bunch of racist texts went out, and apparently singled out Blacks, and per some reports, addressed them by name.
I say 'apparently' because the wording is not specific. For all we know, they went out to Blacks and others in the same proportion, and you could still report "scores of Black students across the country".... Misrepresentation by omission.
But some reports said the text included their name, so maybe this was very targeted with a list of known Blacks?
Of course, there are crazies of all stripes, but Occam and his razor is telling me that this is from disgruntled leftists trying to spread more fear of the Trump win.

My guess was always an activist/group for black Americans, who went too far with a LARP similar to when liberal white women reference Handmaiden's Tale. Basically their projection of "Trump's America".

I saw a report that said at least one source was a troll website, but they did not provide a name or any other details.

Come to think of it, a Black organization would be the most likely to have the numbers (and some names?) of Blacks. Hmmmm.....
