I think it looks like an uninteresting CGI blob that’s being way over marketed.

However, I was joking with my mother she needs to go to the movies this weekend. You know, to see gladiator. And she said she already has tickets to go see Wicked with my sister.

The joke being she hasn’t been to a movie theater in 3-4 years. My sister hasn’t been to a movie that she isn’t taking her kids to since 2016.

If they’re tapping into that demographic… I think the movie will do pretty well

Strong appeal with the broadway crowd, I’ll bet.

Should fare better than CATS.

Yeah, they both were singers so that probably plays into it

It's going to clear 100 million opening weekend. Next weekend Moana 2 is the real money maker though

Marketing that

If you market anything to 13-55 year old women successfully that is where you make the most money. See tumbler cups, Taylor Swift, and Disney for prime examples. Obviously you can make more successfully marketing to all demographics but teenage to middle aged women is the hotspot.

Considering a good percentage of American women up into their 40s still act like teenagers (see: Swift, Taylor) that's a pretty sure bet.

It's the Barbie movie 2.0. It's gonna crush.

Hopefully it doesn't stray too far from the play (which is great), but they obviously need to fills some time, so we'll see what happens.

The screen rant review said
quote:

Wicked, as it releases this Friday, is actually Wicked: Part One. Clocking in at two hours and 40 minutes, it is only five minutes shorter than the entire stage production, yet only comprises the events and songs of Act I. One would think that as a result, the movie will be chock-full of new additions to the plot, perhaps drawing from the original novel by Gregory Maguire.

In actuality, Wicked is a near-perfect adaptation of the musical; instead of adding new elements, screenwriters Winnie Holzman (who wrote the original book for the stage) and Dana Fox let the story breathe, taking their time with each scene and song.

This is why I completely understand why the brain power at the Mouse went in the direction that they did with SW but they bungled the entire thing.

It's going to be interesting when people realize that this movie is only the first half of a two part story.

When you have an established product like Star Wars you don't shite on your core demographic to go after another like Disney did.

That’s actually kind of cool because Act 1 is great and Act 2 sucks arse. All the good songs are in Act 1.

Being a great play (and story) helps. I saw it in London years ago. All they had to do is follow the blueprint.

My wife and I saw it at an early screening for Amazon Prime members on Monday night. If you enjoyed the stage show, you will love the movie. It is a near perfect adaptation of Act 1 of the play. They did not cut out a single song. The performances are great and the vocals, with the exception of Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum's "talk singing" are excellent. I was initially very concerned about the casting of Ariana Grande as Glinda. I just wasn't sure she had the acting chops or the vocals to handle the material. Boy, was I wrong. She may have been the best part of the movie. She looks amazing, sings beautifully, and her comedic timing is spot on. She and Cynthia Erivo have great chemistry and their friendship on screen is very believable. While there is some CGI, they also use practical sets a lot, and it really helps with the grand scale of the film. It's not a "CGI blob" as one other poster said it would be, at least not until the final sequence. If I had to criticize something, it would be that they drew out the "Defying Gravity" scene a little too long. They took a three and a half minute song and made it last almost 10 minutes. I can understand why they did it, since it's the climax of the movie. Other than that, I really enjoyed it.
