Filming thought to start late 24/early 25. Adam Driver and Austin Butler rumored to be the Pacino/DeNiro parts.

Director Michael Mann has unveiled that he is has been working on the script of Heat 2.
The original action-packed movie starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino released in 1995. After thirty years, the film has received an update about getting a sequel.
Mann, while talking about his struggles with the script, told Collider that he has had sleepless nights during the creative process.
“I’m finishing the screenplay, and at 2:30 this morning, it woke me up in the middle of the night.”
“So, I'm in the middle of writing the screenplay, and I wound up driving through LA at 3 a.m., which is fantastic, there are no cars, and ended up at Canter's Delicatessen because that's the only thing open 24 hours”, he informed the publication.
Michael confessed that he finished act four while sitting in a booth until 9:00 A.M in the morning.
He further recalled: “It was ironic because it's the same booth I sat in when I wrote the first couple episodes of Starsky & Hutch back in the 1970s.”
“Then The Jericho Mile and probably some early drafts of Heat", continued the 81-year-old filmmaker.
The Collateral director previously mentioned that he is aiming to begin filming in the late 2024 or early 2025.
For Heat 2, actors namely Adam Driver and Austin Butler are expected to reprise the roles. However, it is not yet confirmed as Mann has not yet commented on the star cast of the film.

This’ll either be really good or really bad
I think Mann’s last great movie was Miami Vice

Miami Vice was fantastic.
We can only hope the prequel to Heat has the same depth of story as the original. Some many layers and character story lines to follow, much less a star studded cast. It will be hard to repeat.

One of my favorites.
The Pacino performance .. it is definitely late stage pacino. I mean, I'm in. Scent of a Woman. Heat. Devil's Advocate...
It's a love/hate thing and he goes way over the top, and not really in line with the performances of most of the other people who are mostly understated.
But I love it..kinda. And I'm not proud about it.
But I wonder if he'd played it a little cooler--more Godfather like.

Whatever he did with the gunfight noises in heat 1, I hope he does the same for heat 2 because that movie really sounds like no other to me when it comes to the gunfire
I’ll watch it for sure. Just hope Butler loses that dumb Elvis accent and doesn’t carry it with him for this one

It won't.

But the Pacino/Deniro characters did not know each other in Heat. Pacino discovers Deniro's crew. They are supposed to interact in Heat 2, which is actually the prequel? I don't mind the idea of a prequel, i just don't see how it doesn't mess with the integrity of the original.

Not sure how I feel about this. The original is one of my favorites of all time.

I finished the book earlier this year, which Mann co-wrote. It's pretty good and an easy read.
It's both a prequel and a sequel, as it covers events before and after those in the movie. It jumps back and forth.
The "prequel" parts explain both of their histories, describing past scores and takedowns.
The "sequel" part has Pacino's character on his next case, which ends up indirectly involving Val Kilmer's character.
It will be interesting to see if any of the book is a part of the movie.

He should have just written another stand alone crime story, which he is brilliant at. There is no need to make everything a sequel/prequel.
