I knew it used to be a center of iron production. What I didn't know is it's riddled with abandoned mineshafts. These folks like to explore them.

It's like being in your home crawlspace, only it never ends & could collapse at any moment

Looks fun. I’m certain that nothing could possibly go wrong.

I get hiking, because the scenery is beautiful, but what’s the payoff there?

I've been watching a lot of cave diving and cave exploring lately, and it's safe to say I will never die in a cave because I wouldn't go in one lol

Spiders. I’ll take a hard pass.

My son lives in the area, until he moved there i had no idea about all the mines.
Pretty cool, I am happy that people do this and post it, so I never have to. I would only be able to explore caves I can walk in.

Urban exploration has always looked like fun.
What would not be fun is getting jumped and killed by a derelict.

The Youtube explorer videos where people break into the old Atlantic City casinos are sort of captivating and creepy also.

Thanks for posting. Took about three videos before I realized I know this dude. Haven't seen him in about a 15 years. Back then he was obsessed with chasing ghosts.

Follow them on FB.
Birmingham has always been a mining town. Between coal and iron ore, there’s old mines all over the place. Guy bought a lot not far from us. I got a bunch of fill dirt from them. I noticed a drill rig out there one day and asked the contractor if they were having to dynamite. He said no. They were putting in the foundation and hit an abandoned coal mine. The drill was to pump it full of concrete. Added $100K to the build to fill the mine with concrete.

Love that account.
There is an abandoned mine under the Federal Reserve bank down 280 that had to be cemented up so someone wouldn't try to dig up into the floor of the bank and rob it. Seriously.

There is also a video of a mine I think out in Bessemer that where a house was an old moonshine or gambling house with a basement that had access to a mine and an underground river under Bham.

The greatest thing about caving is that you never have to do it.
