i always enjoy when you share your work...your pictures are always so beautiful...i took some decent ones yesterday at jefferson island...well...decent for ME

I assume you're primarily cropping with a 400 - 600mm?
Probably using a 40+ mp sensor to get that much resolution?
If you're not, then you're one sneaky, brave SOB to get that close to those guys at eye level.
Great photos. A ton of work goes in to getting shots like these.

I typically shoot wildlife with the Nikon Z8, which is 45mp, and the nikkor 180-600mm lens. I do crop in on some pics, but others I'm pretty close, and no need to crop.
The foxes were pretty close, but some are cropped in, the coyote walking in the snow isn't cropped much at all (just enough for composition), I was sitting in the snow watching him walk right towards me, passed about 5ft from me, had it been with a pack I probably would have gotten back in my truck.

That's awesome. Did you always shoot Nikon?
I'm still using a D4 and D800E and just can't give up all that great old F Mount glass for mirrorless, plus those old bodies are just absolute tanks (and weigh it, too). I know you can adapt many of the old lenses, but it kind of defeats the purpose of thin, light mirrorless in that scenario for me.
I've heard very good things about Nikon's recent releases like the Z8 and new Z6iii, though. Maybe one day. If nothing else for the raw internal video capabilities.

Yes, back in 2020 I bought my first “real” camera, which was the Nikon D500 with the 200-500mm lens. I chose that one because it was great for wildlife. I later got a D850, and used it mostly as my backup (the d850 was a much better camera, but the fps on the D500 was a lot faster.
Last year i upgraded to the Z8 with a Z7 ii as my backup:
I’ve used the z8 with the old 200-500mm lens, and didn’t seem to lose anything speed wise.
My dream lens is the 600mm f4 with the built in teleconverter, but I just to have $13,0000 to drop on a lens right now
