We’re won by head coaches with a Defensive background/ pedigree. 8 out of the past 10 national championships FCS division were also Won by a head coach with a Defensive coordinator/ background. Offense wins & catches the eye , but Defense wins championships.

I mean, Saban heavily skews that.

You sure?

Harbaugh, Day, and Dabo are all offensive background coaches. That's at least 4 of last 10 right there.

Funny...the best FB team to ever come out of BR was an offensive juggernaut. Defense got stops when they needed to but that team was simply impossible to stop.

Not diminishing your point but the reality of today's game is that you have to score points. Lots and lots of points.

And two were won by LSU coaches who were either eating grass or sticking crayons up their nose, who cares

Please expand further on how Ed Orgeron won a National Title because of his defense…

I'm assuming you are using the BCS/CFP champions only, so years 2001 - 2024. It's actually 15 of the last 24, and that number is a bit skewed by Saban.

Another way to look at it is that 8 of the past 14 Championship Coaches were won by coaches with an offensive background

6 defensive coaches - 15 championships

Saban - 7
Meyer - 3
Smart - 2
Carroll - 1
Chizik - 1
O - 1

8 offensive coaches - 9 championships

Swinney - 2
Coker - 1
Tressel - 1
Brown - 1
Miles - 1
Fisher - 1
Harbaugh - 1
Day - 1

Seven of those were Saban, the greatest college coach in history.
