Pelicans now have the worst record in the league

Wizards beat the bucks and now the Pels are in possession of the worst record in the league.
The best part about this is Dumars and Weaver were trying to win this year. Instead they built the worst team in the league and have no 1st to show for it

The team should clearly not be this bad with the talent on the roster.

It's well past time for many on this board to have a come-to-Jesus when rating the roster.
It's not good.
Zion isn't a #1, Trey isn't a #2... hell Zion isn't even a #2 on a contender and Trey isn't a #3. Herb is an elite defender but that doesn't matter when the rest of the roster isn't built to score at an efficient clip.
There's a reason Dejountae Murray was traded away by both the Spurs and Hawks... he's not efficient. Same goes for Jordan Poole. Neither are worth the contract they have.
Queen and Fears have potential but they are still rookies who will hit a rookie wall/get figured out by the league just like every rookie goes through, so you can't rely on them right now.
The rest of the roster is a bunch of dumpster trash. Credit to Jose Alvarado who squeezed every last ounce of talent in his limited game just to make it to the NBA, but when he is one of your 7 best players, you've got a huge talent problem.

I think it is more absolute trash coaching leadership and the fact they are not playing. Not fully hating on Borrego at this point as he took over a complete mess of coaching.
I see it as the team was constructed around Zion and he has chosen to destroy the team by not playing winning basketball and/or being in shape.
From a pure talent standpoint. They have talent on the team. Watching other NBA teams, the Pelicans individual players have skills that if put on other rosters would make them key starters and rotation players. They are just poorly coached and Zion has not decided to be a consistent leader with his elite talent. At this point you have to admit Zion doesn’t have that in him as a player until he proves it.
The key Pels talent has to be on the court to win games also. You have two problems with players actually playing games.
1. Murray was actually truly hurt with a legitimate long term injury. The guy has passion.
2. Zion does not appear to have the motivation and passion to lead the team. The team was constructed with him being the primary driving force. Due to the overwhelming ridiculous non-engagement of Zion playing, others are now disengaging with minor issues.
Everyone can hate on Benson. She should have pushed to get different leadership involved. She is an example of why the owner has to have atleast a little business sense to hold people accountable. Drafting has been fine, but the coaching has been horrible. They failed in not moving on better coaching more quickly. She is spending money as the payroll is middle of the pack in the league and she is in the smallest market. People complain about the arena, but people are dumb in that argument because they will not spend the money on tickets for luxury perks regardless of how good the team is. It is easy to criticize the Zion moves, but the NBA has a problem with players potentially destroying small markets. I guarantee Zion will change his attitude just like Anthony Davis when he changes teams to a bigger market. Just like Anthony Davis started immediately pushing through minor bumps and bruises when he went to the Lakers, Zion will suddenly get more serious.

Pels have to move on from Zion to start the recovery process. A 6'6 PF with no jumper, no rebounding is a death knell. He gets paid too much and can't be relied on. Plain and simple. I think the other problems will work themselves out, but we need that #1 guy first.

I’ve been advocating for the tank since Zion showed up fat as a rookie. I hated the trade for CJ McCollum in a year Zion didn’t play.
The pelicans are finally fully embracing the tank . . . in a year they have no picks.
I expect the pelicans to return to their rightful place of picking 10-14th in the draft in 2027.

What teams do we have more talent than? The roster sucks, bad. I got DV'd to death pre season because I said we were a bottom 5 NBA team at best.
I have been an optimist my entire Pelinets fandom, but it was pretty easy to take the blinders off in the offseason and see that this was a baaaaaad roster. We were supposed to get excited for Jordan Poole and Looney

Disagree, there were reasons for optimism on paper and reality.
Zion - lost weight equating to more games played, more stamina to play a complete game
Missi - more experience, strength, offensive production, rim protection
Trey - expected to take the next step with BI gone
Poole - expected to take the CJ role but not be 45 years old
DJM - a real PG finally
Also everyone being back healthy was a big one (so much for that

There is literally nothing Zion could have done to get me excited for him. I like Zion, but he cannot be relied upon and I don't have battered wife syndrome. I've seen the Zion is in the best shape since his Duke days 100 times, they haven't given me optimism in a long time.

I never saw this as much ofa net positive at all. It's Jordan Poole, not exactly a guy known for making teams better much less when he is having to replace statistically one of the the best 3pt shooters in the NBA over the past two years. I didn't want to pay CJ so i was fine with it but never really saw it as an upgrade, CJ was very underrated in his time here.

Sorry just couldn't get any optimism going for an injured player that was guaranteed to miss the first 3-4 months of the season when it'd be too late for him to make any difference anyway.
But agree I was looking forward to Missi's development and Trey making a step but neither of those were even close to enough to making me think we'd be anything other than a bottom 5 team.

I would take that bet. Too many bad habits at this point and he has never worked hard. He don't know how to succeed and he is set for life. No reason for him to try anymore.
I am sure there will be a few teams that would be willing to gamble. I could even see him having a good short run in a place like Miami. But it's a long shot..
