According to sources familiar with the conversation, Landry said the state was uniquely qualified to stabilize a foreign nation due to its long history of governing during hurricanes, budget gaps, and the most difficult tragedy of all, managing LSU football coaching decisions. He allegedly described the proposal as “a natural next step” for Louisiana, adding that the transition could be completed once Venezuela agreed to accept slightly redesigned license plates.
In the same discussion, Landry named Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser as Louisiana’s official envoy to Greenland, a role officials confirmed would involve diplomacy, tourism promotion, and explaining Louisiana to people who did not ask.
Nungesser reportedly accepted the assignment immediately, noting that Greenland already has a lot of ice, isolation, and a huge fishing industry, making it “basically ready for Louisiana-style leadership.”
State officials stressed that Louisiana’s involvement in Venezuela would be temporary, ending once conditions stabilized or the first legislative session began, whichever caused the greater disruption.

Well...because I'm from there, graduated college from there, paid income taxes there, own property there, still pay taxes there, still conduct business there at times, will eventually move back, and pay college tuition for a kid there.
