Do you think the Detroit Lions window has closed?

The past two seasons they had a real chance to make it to the Super Bowl and didn’t get it done. They took a few steps backward this season and missed the playoffs. Do you think the Lions moving forward still have a chance to contend for a championship? They have the pieces offensively (Gibbs, St. Brown, Jameson Williams) but is Goff the answer? Can the defense hold up?
I think Dan Campbell is a solid coach, but how much did losing Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn hinder them this season?

For a team like Detroit without much success, that home playoff loss to Washington last year felt like a franchise altering game as it was happening. For the Lions, that was an all time great team and they got run off their home field when they were Super Bowl favorites.

Yes, they have the worst coach in their division and the 2nd worst QB in their division.
Impossible to sustain success when this is the case and your roster is mature and QB is overpaid. Just look at KC - they sank as soon as Harbaugh and Payton both had 2 years to turn around LAC and DEN with cheaper, younger, and hungrier talent.
Its not college football where you can just reload every year.

They had more practice squad guys starting on defense than guys who were on the team to start the season. Injuries wiped them clean out.
Their defense took a sizable step back this year and that really hurt them in one score games.
Of the “big 3” playoff favorites that missed the playoffs this year, I see them being the most likely to make the playoffs next season. I don’t believe in the Bears at all, the Packers are basically the NFC Steelers of the past decade to me, and Minnesota won’t be shite until they get competent QB play again.

Lions may be perennial playoff contenders but they’ll never win shite with Goff and Campbell. They’re both morons when it counts.

Of course. Dan Campbell sucks.

Goff is the best QB in the division. That’s not even a debate. The O line was terrible this year and they decided to not find a suitable replacement for Ben Johnson.
Team was very banged up again, this is probably due to Campbell being tough and hitting in practice all year long. O Line needs to get better and offense overall will be better with competent playcaller.
Most of this is on Dan being a retard in my opinion. He outright lost a few games this year by being a dumbass.

I would not say the window is totally closed, but they are kind of like Buffalo. Still a good team, but the current regime’s best days are behind them.

This is their injured reserved list. Not as bad as the Cardinals having 25 on the list, but they were absolutely gutted by injuries. They lost 10 guys on defense to the IR, no way you can survive that.
Sam LaPorta (TE): Injured Reserve (Back).
Brian Branch (DB): Injured Reserve (Achilles).
Alim McNeill (DT): Injured Reserve (ACL).
Marcus Davenport (DE): Injured Reserve.
Josh Paschal (DE): Injured Reserve (Back/Non-Football Injury).
Derrick Barnes (LB): Injured Reserve.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. (CB): Injured Reserve (Shoulder).
Z. Cunningham (ILB): Injured Reserve.
G. Manu (OL): Injured Reserve.
Jamarco Jones (OT): Injured Reserve (Ankle - out for 2025 season).
Ezekiel Turner (LB): Injured Reserve (Foot).
Colby Sorsdal (OT): Injured Reserve.
Dan Jackson (S): Injured Reserve.
Kye Robichaux (RB): Injured Reserve.
Levi Onwuzurike (DE): Injured Reserve (ACL).

I was referring to last season. But yeah this season they had less talent than last on defense and still had massive amounts of injuries. That’s shite luck but that’s the kind of luck the Lions have.

This is 2 seasons riddled with injuries, training and medical staffs need to be looked at for upgrades.

Their OL also dropped off this year and was injured. Losing Ragnow to retirement turned into a massive loss. Decker is likely to retire too.
Tate Rateledge from GA will be a good G but it's going to take time.

I feel like Campbell kinda flubbed the OC hire on purpose so he could take over the play calling.
