The fact that the Danes are even agreeing to a sit down means they are willing to entertain offers. If they were adamant they wouldn’t even take the meeting.

We aren't going to get Greenland as a territory. I do expect at some point over the next two or three years though for the Danes to agree to some defense access agreement and opening SOME of the mineral markets to US investment.

Why would acquiring Greenland be advantageous for us? Is there an obvious reason that I am just missing?

This is why I think it will be some type of long term lease (50-100 years). The Danes allow the US to invest and exploit the resources (with guardrails) and improve infrastructure (defense and otherwise) without day to day Danish oversight. A long term lease allows the US to invest long term with no concern of losing their return. Trump can sweeten the pot by giving the Danes a cut of future revenue.

We absolutely will get Greenland as a territory. Trump has been saying for damn near a year that we need it for national security. Do you think he will back down or the Danish military will stop us from taking it?

Trump will cut some kind of deal involving cash, trade allowances, natural resources, etc. with Denmark and everyone will go home feeling like they've won.... except the American left. They will scream bloody murder regardless of what happens.
