I find the 66 culture fascinating. In the right spots, it’s like traveling back in time. The old gas stations, motels, neon signs. I love the cheesy roadside attractions. The preservationist nature of the folks along that road is great.

I’ve driven portions of it, but certainly not all in one trip. Definitely reminiscent of some great times.

We took it as far as the Arizona border and it was pretty entertaining for the most part

Very entertaining. I don’t mind wandering around motel property for 5 minutes so a nice person can get to the building and check me in. I don’t mind using an actual key. Customer service is usually top notch at most of the businesses I have gone to.

We have traveled the Arizona portion and the Oklahoma/Missouri portion. I enjoy it.

Hell of a lot better than being on an interstate.
I’ve started taking a lot of the slower old highways that were built as the main routes back in the day. A lot less stress and a lot of interesting sights.

I was in Chicago recently and as I left the Art Institute,I noticed that Route 66 starts there.

Agreed 100%. This is the only way I do roadtrips now.

I've read about the culture but never driven it

Billy Connolly rode it on a Harley and wrote a book about the trip. He may have even filmed a doc on it.

Drove it for a while in AZ Stopped in Flagstaff to eat.

More memorable was Jerome, AZ and eating at the Haunted Hamburger.

I find the idea of Route 66 fascinating. The idea that one could drive from one metropolis to another and the freedom of the American Plains and West.

Seeing the old infrastructure is also fascinating to me.

The time period “culture” surrounding the towns is not my bag.

Most of its dead and dilapidated now. The interstate put a lot of those places out of business.

Is that the appeal of Route 66? I grew up in Oklahoma City and have been around parts of it in my Studebaker and honestly it just seems ok.

With Route 66 being so popular in places like Europe and Japan, I wonder if they often come here and are disappointed by it. It’s not exactly the Swiss Alps.

I loved Flagstaff. I had my kids so went to parks, museums and the Arizona Snowbowl. Very clean and beautiful. Very nice people. Very granola without the wokism. I want to live there

It's Sedona before Sedona got overrun.

Gets cold up there, though.
