Federal prosecutors have reportedly launched a criminal investigation into Fed Chair Jerome Powell.

The investigation is reportedly focused on renovations of the Federal Reserve’s headquarters.

The investigation focuses on “the central bank’s renovation of its Washington headquarters and whether Mr. Powell lied to Congress about the scope of the project, according to officials briefed on the situation,” the New York Times reported.

“The president has threatened to fire the Fed chair … and raised the prospect of a lawsuit against him related to the $2.5 billion renovation, citing “incompetence.””

Back in July, Trump and Powell started arguing in front of the cameras over the cost of the project.

I don’t care if it’s petty because 2.5 billion is unreal. If it’s legit… put out the contracts and scope of work and let the public follow the money.

Good.

Lawfare is the way the game is played. I’m just happy the Republicans finally decided to get in the game.

Would not the RESG be in charge of all this? Generally, the Fed Governors aren't involved with mundane stuff like this. They leave it up to RESG who is much like the GSA for federal agencies

This sounds stupid and petty. Wasting investigator's time and effort because he may have exaggerated how much a renovation project costs?

Kickbacks, bribes, and good times for all.

Falsifying business records is a very, very, very serious crime.

No one is above the law. Not even Jerome Powell.

You could build an NBA arena for that.

1) someone stole a lot of money; or
2) they didn’t steal a lot of money but the Federal Reserve is a bloated and outdated institution that needs to be audited and shut down.

Probably but maybe they can find something.

This is lawfare. A pressure move. Trump intends to squeeze Jerome Powell.

Well, it certainly wasn’t done in time to affect the election.
