Do you know any lawyers who do immigration?

I honestly had no idea this was a real specialty, but the kid of one of my college roommates is one. His dad had told me and I thought it had something to do with business. Turns out illegals hire him to try to keep them from being deported. I dont see how that is even possible. I figured if they get caught they get deported, end of story. Apparently though this kid is really good and wins a lot of his cases.
Ive known this kid since he was little and he has always been smart, so I was proud for him and his folks when he went to law school and passed the bar exam. I dont know what to think now though. He seems to be using his God given talents for destructive purposes.
My buddy doesnt say much about it, but he and his wife are good people. I can tell it is eating them up inside.

When you let in millions of unvetted illegals and try to undo it, mistakes are gonna be made. And there are innocent people who get caught in all this, occasionally.
So an immigration lawyer fighting for people like that I’m fine with but I would imagine this line of work is similar to ambulance chasing lawyers.

Similar to personal injury lawyers - they rarely go to court.
These immigration lawyers make the whole case such a pain in the arse, the legal system gives in. Squeaky wheel get s the oil.

even the mob is entitled to representation, can't believe you've never heard of this though

This is only part of what they do
They also represent people going through the immigration process legally
They get paid by businesses for visa compliance for workers (big in South LA for crawfish farms, FYI), or do individual-level representation
etc

Some of you seem to really, really hate that people in this country have constitutionally protected due process rights.

Yes, an illegal immigrant can challenge their status in immigration court, where they have the right to present their case and contest the evidence against them. However, they are not entitled to a court-appointed attorney if they cannot afford one, which can complicate the process.

There's a lady down the hall from my office that does it. She always has illegals here all day. I have no clue what they're saying because they never speak english. Most annoying part is when they come up to me asking something but don't speak any english and keep asking me in Spanish like i'm going to miraculously understand them.

My ex's dad is one. He's apparently very respected nationally.

Yeah, the real money immigration is for business purposes or getting professionals in the door. Otherwise you are working for legal aid.

My only assumption is if they are Illegal and hire a lawyer to get a judge (or some other authority) to declare them legal, then they are more than likely not a hardened criminal, so why not just move along and keep scooping up as many criminals as possible and not worry about the ones who are not criminals and can afford to hire an attorney ... disclaimer if they are actually criminals and the judges are overlooking it, I blame the judges as more than the lawyers

I went to school with a couple that went the immigration route. Odd ducks but I really didn’t know their personal life experiences that led to them choosing that field.

Basically. Or it's a loss leader for more profitable areas. I see a lot of immigration-criminal combos and I have to imagine the immigration is retail-level only, and criminal is the money maker.

Yeah, how dare someone keep the government in check and make sure they provide due process.

Boy are you going to be upset when you find out that it's a lawyer's job to represent people charged with crimes

Thats the part I don't understand. How are they entitled to due process of any kind?
