Edited to add additional information that a former Tiger Antonio Blakeney was one of the first and played a MAJOR role in this scheme. Thankfully not while at LSU. Wild.

With prop betting and gambling at insanely high levels, this is becoming more the norm in many sports. Tulane, UNO, Nichols State, Northwestern LA. Most of these are from the basketball programs from smaller schools.
Federal authorities have indicted 20 individuals, including current and former players from 17 different NCAA Division I men's basketball teams, as part of a major point-shaving scheme announced in January 2026. The investigation does not focus on the teams themselves as entities, but rather on the individual players involved in the conspiracy to manipulate game outcomes for prop betting purposes. The schools with players reportedly involved in the scheme are:
Abilene Christian
Alabama State
Buffalo
Coppin State
DePaul
Eastern Michigan
Fordham
Kennesaw State
La Salle
Nicholls State
North Carolina A&T
Northwestern (La.) State
Robert Morris
Saint Louis
Southern Mississippi
Tulane
University of New Orleans
The players allegedly accepted bribes, often ranging from $10,000 to $30,000 per game, to underperform or influence the point spread during the 2022-2023 and 2024-2025 seasons. The NCAA has also been conducting its own investigations and has already permanently banned some athletes for related betting violations.

Tulane just didn’t learn from the last time they did this.

Still can't believe people are wasting time bribing players when the refs are so much better suited to this. They have far more control and make far less money.

LSU not on the list thankfully
Well thats a first. I'm shocked they aren't giving all the other schools a pass while pinning it on us.

You think the refs make less than the players at Coppin State?

The feds looked at McMahon's teams and quickly decided there's no way a team could purposely have such poor results. No one actually engaging in point shaving would be THAT obvious.

Blakeney was doing it in Chinese basketball league lol

Between NIL and point shaving, I feel like I’m living the movie Blue Chips.

Nothing is gonna happen to the schools anyway. Gambling is so easy now it's pretty impossible to hold schools accountable for a player point shaving. Basically gonna need coaches to be in on it for schools to be liable.

LSU would have to be capable of scoring points to shave them.

FWIW , that happened 40 yrs ago with John Hot Rod Williams, and none of the current players being investigated were even born. Heck, Perry Clark is 75 yrs old now

Who in their right mind would bet on those loser programs?
I believe Tulane basketball got the death penalty in the 80's for point shaving with John Hot Rod Williams

Seems like this is one of those things that's going to be much more widespread than has been acknowledged.
If there are enough degenerate gamblers to concoct a scheme involving Nicholls FFS, think about how much more interest and money could be made messing with a top 25 program.
I have this sinking feeling that gambling is going to sink college athletics faster than the NIL and free agency stuff.

It is already affecting the "integrity of the game" without question.
