What is controversial about our current immigration laws?

A lot of panicans are stating that people didn't vote for Trump to uphold our current laws. They want the "nonviolent" illegals to stay. They are stating that they are 100% ok with unfettered illegal immigration as long as the illegals are not violent.
Name me 1 South American country that has this lenient of an immigration policy? Name me 1 country in the world that has this lenient of an immigration policy that isn't being overrun by "migrants" (looking at you Germany, France, UK, etc...)

Current immigration laws down match their feelings.

It’s funny. You can search around on YouTube and find videos where Dems like Bernie Sanders are railing against open borders and illegal immigration. They were basically where Trump is now. Things sure changed in a hurry.

Because these people are all about feelings instead of logic.

Probably the parts dealing with asylum.

No conservative wants a single illegal here. ZERO. ZILCH. NADA.
I've been waiting for the mass deportations since they got out of hand in the 80s.

Canada and Mexico have stricter immigration laws. Nuff said.

It is my understanding that ICE is just executing deportation orders at this time.
Violent or not, at some point an immigration judge determined these people needed to leave.
ICE is just enforcing the judge's orders.
What's the issue?

The controversy is how poorly several previous administrations failed to enforce them
GWB and Biden in particular

Ecuador?
Ecuador's immigration policy allows visa-free entry for many tourists for up to 90 days, requiring a passport valid for at least six months, but some nationalities need advance visas, including new transit visa rules for 45 countries as of late 2025.
These frickers getting arrested have been in the US for years. Ecuador is not a good example for whatever you were trying to get across.
EDIT: I missed one of your points about asylum laws.
The asylum law states that:
Applicants must file Form I-589, Application for Asylum, typically within one year of arrival, proving past persecution or a "well-founded fear" of future persecution on one of those grounds
Most apply when they get caught at the border or get caught overstaying their visas. Everything about the asylum process is getting abused.

They weren't doing it while Obama was deporting millions of people. That tells me it's not about the deportations themselves, but about how the deportations are being conducted. You'd have to provide more direct evidence.

Oh, so you're not being serious. Sorry.

That's not an immigration policy.
Following moving to Ecuador and obtaining one’s Residency Visa(s), in and of their first few years of life in our beautiful country, many an expat simply elects to remain as a permanent resident of Ecuador, and not jump through the next procedural hoop in sequence, which is of course to become an Ecuadorian citizen.

Emigration to Ecuador is extremely easy.

My friend is Filipino and said a non-citizen can’t even own land there.
I looked it up and sure enough it’s true.
A non-citizen living in the Philippines can only rent.
Many countries have tough laws on immigrants and especially illegal immigrants.

Can you link me to a news network covering Obama's deportations as signs of "fascism" and "nazis"?
Oh, you can't.
Congratulations, you fell for it.

Even though you included this part of my post in your response, apparently you neglected to actually read it. I'll reiterate:

Republicans didn't have sanctuary cities. Its also well known that Ovama didn't actually deport that many. That administration counted turn around as deportations. Being deported from Minn and being turned around at the border are not equal in the slightest.
Playing with numbers (see also the way unemployed is calculated between the diff admins) doesn't really mean anything.

Serious as a heart attack. Biden ran on undoing everything Trump did. Remain in Mexico was one big deal. Supposedly he received more votes than ever.

86% of Democrats and Democratic leaners say the administration is doing too much, up 11 percentage points since March

Apologies. I misread. Thought you were talking about asylum laws.

You mean who is deporting, not how. Don’t lie. The people objecting isn’t normal people, it’s radical leftists.
