Why Ford can't get mechanics

With the President on this one.

GM engineering is no better

sounds rough, but I also only understood like 20% of what he was talking about.

I didn't think that was too much. Whatever, what do I know? They barely use hand tools anymore, quit whining.

That dumbass doesn't know they make compressor tools for struts, pretty much every OEM that uses struts makes it so that you are either dissassembling the control arms or buying such a tool. At least Ford uses control arms with replaceable ball joints, GM rivets the ones for the lowers in...

It's hysterical, I think.
The worker should never say shite like that.
The worker should never say shite like that.

His rant would’ve been far more effective if he just condensed it to …”look how complicated they make things, it took thirty minutes just to remove this part before I can start the process. Since Ford pays mechanics a set rate for each job, nobody is turning a profit that doesn’t bill hourly.”

“It’s all ball bearings nowadays”

Yep, been like that forever and things never change.
Their PSP pulley fit and attachment on their SB serpentine bracket are also weird, old tech that mechanics have dealt with.

30% of the video was him issuing a kamala word salad. Then he sorta got to the point.

It doesn't matter who the manufacturer is. They ALL engineer the vehicles to be as cheap to assemble as possible. That means the modules are assembled by people standing and working at a height between their chest and hips. Components are assembled into modules ready to be bolted in with as few fasteners as possible, and wiring harnesses are also modular.
A drivetrain module, a dash module, pair of front seat modules, 2nd row seat modules, 3rd row seat modules, etc...
What that means for someone who has to try and disassemble the monstrosity in order to replace one simple component (that everyone who knows anything about cars knows will fail, or is a maintenance item) is that clamps will be turned in ways that put their release mechanism in a very tight spot because that is the ease of assembly, but when it is crammed into a fully built vehicle gives about 1/4 " clearance to access it. Extrapolate that to everything in the vehicle.

An easier video to prove his point would’ve been to simply demonstrate the top bolt on a coyote starter.

I disagree. I’ve turned a lot of wrenches on GMC stuff and compared to Ford, it’s unbelievably better.
After working on my BIL’s Ford Taurus, I won’t work on another one. It was if zero thought was put into what might happen to the car after it left the factory.
I worked on a few Mini Coopers and they were easier to work on than any ford I’ve touched.

GM's stuff today is absolutely no better. No parts, engines failing, built-in obsolescence. At least with older (pre-2007) trucks there is something worth mauntaining and parts are still easy to come by, just going to leak oil everywhere.

It should be renamed to imagineering like Disney, where they use their imagination that vehicles will never need servicing.

I will never buy a new car again except for a Tesla when they perfect FSD. Only classic cars for me from here on out.

The real reason is pay and benefits. An average Ford assembly line worker makes more money and has a better benefit package than a dealership mechanic.

None of the OP’s video was complicated. It simply takes more time. That has 0 to do with hiring mechanics. A mechanic is paid hourly to work on jobs, why does a mechanic care if he does 4 jobs that take 2 hours each or 8 jobs that take 1 hour each?
He doesn’t.
He doesn’t.
