Our blitzing potential, turnover potential, and star power on defense is absolute O-Coordinator nightmare fuel

No he is a linebacker. Star is going to be a safety, probably Benefield or Delane. Perkins only played there because we didn’t know what to do with him

I wonder if Spears is also a potential if Delane is better in the traditional spot

Baker is going to have a blast moving the pieces around out there

the "star" gets too much attention here. there is nothing really unique about the position.

His cover skills are not what’s needed for that position and neither were Perkins when he started playing the position. Perkins needed a couple seasons at that spot.

Not true at all under Blake baker defense. You don’t know ball

I wonder what the prototype for the star position is

In my mind it's a Matthieu or polamalu type (those are the freaks)

Strong enough in to stop the run game, fast enough to blitz, and good in coverage to not be exposed in man coverage

Who on the current roster checks the boxes best?

Who played star last year, and what did his assignment entail?

Boudreaux: We need a Star.
Thibodaux: Like…space?
Boudreaux: No, defense.
Thibodaux: So a great player?
Boudreaux: No, the position.
Thibodaux: Then why is it called Star?
Boudreaux: Who knows?

People don’t want to hear this, but Baker did pretty awful at this last year. We got no pass rush all season and I didn’t see a single snap where Perkins lined up at DE and just create havoc. Instead he would cover slot receivers.

There is a reason we started saying 3rd and Baker. His 3rd down D consisted of bringing blitz from 20 yards away, or blitzing a LBer and dropping Pyburn into coverage. He really needs to be better on 3rd down. Damn near elite in every category until it gets to 3rd down. Not coincidentally, that is when most of the QB scrambles happened too

“Star” was because we had harold perkins and there was nowhere to put him.
It will be the nickel back and we will have a safety there to help in run support. Benefield is penciled in there.
We need help in run support we were terrible in the bowl game

Butt is right on it. If he couldn’t make Perkins shine in the position, then we probably need to stop glorifying it. Perkins was in coverage more than he was wreaking havoc in the box, and especially with the lack of use rushing the passer. Perkins was essentially a 3rd safety

Hahaha...

Good ol', Lester. Annoying TigerDroppings users for 23 years with his hot takes.

Have to admire the persistence!

I mean, he effectively shares his PFF password with all of us. So he's not all bad.
