I’m just curious — do they still do this? I went to public schools in northeast Louisiana in the 1980’s and 1990’s and got no less than 15 paddlings in my 12 year school career. I checked, and Louisiana is actually one of the few states left in the country where it’s still legal. But is it even happening?

I had a shop instructor in high school that would hit you so hard with a big women paddle, I guarantee you your feet would come up off the floor. Couldn't be a wuss and cry though, had to hold that shite in or get laughed at by the other boys!!

Not everywhere. My son is in Needville, TX school. They have corporal punishment or Saturday detention. We go the corporal punishment when called. Twice in 3 1//2 years.

Now that’s funny. How old are you, just to get a point of reference? Trying to figure out if this kept happening after I “grew up,” and if so, how long.

I guarantee you there's no paddling happening at the schools where paddling actually needs to happen.

Had a male teacher once, who gave us a pop quiz. Two of us, guys in the class didn't have a pencil on us so we asked to borrow one from him. He said sure, "come up and get one". When we came up to him, he grabbed a short extension cord off his desk and tried to grab each one of us by the arm so he could whip our arse with the cord. All because he was pissed that we were having to borrow a pencil.
The other guy was a sort of bad arse with a very short fuse. He pulled the cord out of the teacher's hand and actually chased the teacher out of the room with it. He was rewarded eventually with a 3 day vacation from school.

Had a school bus driver around 3rd-5th grade (early 80s) who kept a small baseball bat handy. If you were acting up and within reach, your shin or knee was in danger. If out of reach, the next time he stopped the bus he'd get up and go to the back. Good times. Guy had a beard but no mustache. Baw for sure.

Sounds like Mr. London, the shop teacher at Westdale. Or as we liked to refer to it - Westjail.

Did the paddle have holes drilled in it so the principal could get a little more speed with it like ours did?

The coach at my school administered the paddling. You got to sign the paddle afterwards.

He displayed the previous years paddles on the wall behind his desk.
