What purpose does the NCAA serve at this point?

Aside from the official logo and the hosting of championship events - both of which can be replaced by something else. What is the purpose of this agency?

Contrary to the logic of many here, there are other sports. I was not isolating football.

None really. They have no power. The sec and big10 should separate and form their own association

I hear this all the time, but no one ever says why? Is it because the NCAA tries to enforce rules, and if the SEC/Big 10 breaks away they'll just let everyone go rogue and do what the hell they want? People bitch about no control in college sports, but when the NCAA tries to enforce rules everyone gets pissed about it. Which is it?

The NCAA as a governing has to be given power to enforce rules and policies. There has to be something in charge. This is absolutely bush league hometown cooking. And they have no ability to remedy it? Anyone who has any reason to stay in college for ten years can now do it?
And in other sports, think about if you have kids and athletes. There is no attrition rate. 16-17 YOs now have to compete for roster spots against 26 year olds in their physical primes? No one will graduate blocking spots on rosters.

Once the courts rule that players have unlimited eligibility and don’t have to be actual students, college sports are essentially over.

Pretty much. Everyone complains about it being the Wild West but whenever they try to bring order, they just get sued. Seems like universities only want order and control when it adversely affects someone else. Such is life I guess

None. Zero. They should be ignored

Then what? If it collapses, what fills the vacumn?

If they allow a Mississippi court ruling on ???? to stand it will be open season on eligibility.

I’m not sure but Arkansas and other programs on our level have a healthy amount of concern about them because we’re the ones who get punished for the big boys wrongdoing.

You know the thing about chaos? It’s fair

The NCAA still owns March Madness, CWS, WCWS, & T&F National Championship right?

They cant/wont though. Antitrust.
Posted on 2/12/26 at 10:35 pm to rpg37
At some point, Congress needs to give the NCAA some sort of anti trust exemption to give them reasonable authority to enforce rules around eligibility and transfers without local courts bitch slapping the NCAA’s rulings.

Yeah they could. The NCAA could still exist for all the other conferences
