I’ve been using a small teflon coated pan for a few years mainly for cooking omelets. The nonstick has started flaking and I chunked it because I don’t want that in my eggs. I need to replace it and would like to get a decent pan. Are the cheap nonstick pans all basically the same or are there some brands that are better quality? I don’t mind spending a little more for quality as this is a pan we use regularly. I have just thought that all of the nonstick pans were basically the same and they were made to be bought and tossed when they start flaking. Do any of you have any good recommendations?

Yeah I figured a cheap Walmart pan would be the way to go. I don’t think the pan I’d be replacing was a T-Fal but something similar.

I buy the Tramotina version and toss when they start showing some wear.

Amazon Basics.

But if you learn how to cook using a stainless steel plan, you'll never want to use a nonstick pan again.

Unfortunately, my wife will be using it to. Let’s just say I didn’t marry her for her cooking.

Misen nitrided carbon steel non stick. No coating. Made under high temps in a nitrogen environment. They are amazing. Best non stick on the market.

I got one for Christmas. It is a badass pan. It can put a sear on the fish or steaks that in my opinion surpasses a cast iron skillet. The only thing I don't like about it is the sides aren't very tall.
I use a bit of unsalted butter and eggs slide right around.

I have been using an 8 inch Demeyre nonstick for years that I bought from Zwilling clearance and it works great.

We've been using the ceramic Green Pan products for years. They are my favorites for cooking eggs and fish.

I use my carbon steel pans on most nights, but they are like cast iron, in that you must dry them after use and keep them seasoned. Even when you do everything right they will still stick sometimes. They do not play well with acidic foods either.

If someone else is cleaning up after a meal, you could find your carbon steel soaking in the sink or in the dishwasher, and then you will have a problem.

The Green Pans have lasted years, require minimal care, and are still great with scrambled eggs provided you use a little oil or butter. We do not use metal utensils with them, or put them in the dishwasher, even though they are claiming to be "dishwasher safe."

I like Green Pans so much, I just bought another just for the lake house.

I wanted the Hex Clad until I saw the price. So I bought knock off hexclad from Amazon and love them. A lot cheaper. Nothing sticks and can use metal utensils and the pan is stainless.
These are great.
My favorite is the 8" omlet pan. Can make omelets with no added oil

I have a big green egg ceramic that works well for what it is. My wife bought a few of their skillets with the waffle texture or whatever... I loathe those things. Always get shite stuck in the little pock marks. Seems a terrible design to me.

Yep. People don’t realize that you can season them. They become perfectly nonstick.

All true, but require more TLC than most home cooks are willing and able to provide.

This is the Greenpan line of cookware that I'm referring to. Smooth ceramic surface.

Big Green Egg is a whole different company. And the style of pan your wife overpaid for is garbage. Sounds like your wife bought the hybrid "Spectra Gold Thermobond" ceramic cookware.

Hexclad pioneered that type of pan with the waffle texture, and I would't own what your wife bought, or a Hexclad, or the Tiama titanium pans with their uneven texture to hold oil droplets that are often passed off as "nonstick", because they aren't. Look at the reviews of these items on Youtube to see how poorly they perform and hold up.

Speaking of Tiama pans, don't fall for the hype about Tiama titanium cutting boards, unless you are willing to spend all your time resharpening your knives. Contrary to their company hype, the dull the crap out of them. They use peoples fear of micro plastics and wooden cutting boards and bacteria to sell those knife destroying monstrosities. And none of that merchandise is cheap, either.

I buy the smallest non stick at Sam's for $17. When I was cooking eggs every morning for 4, I'd just recycle it after 2 years and buy another one. I used silicone spatulas, but my ex MIL did not, otherwise they would have lasted longer.

I forgot Sam’s had pots and pans. I remember looking at them before and they seemed like they were made well. That’s probably the route I’m going to go. Thanks for reminding me.
