Louisiana
We told him he had to pay it. Wondering if Louisiana has a program where he can attend a driving course or some such thing to help remediate the costs, especially to insurance.

Call your DA. Get an Article 894. You will pay costs and fines and it will not show on insurance.
Speeding is prevented by lightening up on the gas pedal.

Defensive Driving courses were an option in Louisiana at least when I was in high school. You could do one every 5 years to get minor speeding tickets downgraded to non-moving violations.
Not sure if these are still an option, though.
Check with the City or Parish where he got the ticket.

Bribe a DA to have it fixed.

Yes they do. Depending on where in LA you can csll the DA and negotiate it down to a nonmoving violation. Typically pay fine and they don't report it to insurance.

Don't use your 894. Im not a lawyer but have been told don't waste your get out of jail free card on a speeding ticket. Save it for something more serious like DWI.
ETA: Removed comment about only getting one Article 894

They typically reduce it when you go in especially if you don’t have anything prior.
I got a reckless operation awhile back for doing 89 in a 70 because I don’t drive slow in Nola East because of bullets and that got reduced to practically nothing where I had to pay $150

Check to see if the DA has an upcoming golf tournament, assemble a team and get a round of golf and some good food out of it instead of a direct cash payment.

I would save the article 894 in case he gets something more serious.

I was an idiot in college and had many tickets. Every single one I just went in and told the clerk I didn’t mind paying them because I was in the wrong but I really didn’t want to pay State Farm and they moved it to a non moving no questions asked.

Assuming it's his first offense, they do. And it's all done online now. Very easy to handle. I think the course was just under $200, and once you complete it they send you an email saying your ticket is taken care of.
I had to do one for a red light ticket a couple months ago (not a camera ticket...a cop pulled me over and wrote me one

If he’s a juvenile they won’t release the ticket info to your insurance due to privacy laws… What happens is that the ticket is issued and then sent to whatever the DA in parish he lives in not necessarily the district it was written in. I’ve heard of different DAs doing it differently but locally, they gather up a few of them and call them all in around the same time, fuss at them and then put them on “probation” warning them that if they continue to get in trouble they will revoke their license. Typically fines are about $50 or so depending upon the severity.
All that said call the DA and talk to them, let them know you are involved and they’ll help you out.
Don’t mention 894 or anything because they will assume you have lots of experience with tickets or you plan on lawyering up leading them to more work.
Editing to add: for everyone talking about 894…. Never ever ask for an 894 for a speeding ticket… ask them if they’re willing to amend it to a non moving or something..

The Traffic Pretrial Diversion Program in Bogalusa/Washington Parish (22nd Judicial District) allows eligible first-time traffic offenders to avoid points on their license and insurance hikes by completing a, often online, driving school and paying fees. The program requires submitting a request at least 15 days before the court date to have charges "dead filed" or dismissed.

This is the way, provided he has no prior tickets.

Show up at court and talk to the DA.
Usually will change to non moving violation.
If he goes to court and cop is a no show, it will be dropped.

Thanks all. Definitely won't use 894, going to pursue diversion program at DAs office.

How much of an idiot does your son have to be to get a speeding ticket in this state? I feel like cops are hardly ever out writing tickets for speeding these days, hence why everyone drives like hooligans around here now.

I didn’t even know speeding tickets existed any more living in br
