With the amount of money spent on Football this year, Basketball will just be the sacrifice. No firing, just business as usual.

You woke up at 5 AM and decided you needed to get this thought out of your head?

You always sacrifice basketball for football

One is a niche sport and the other is your golden goose

Looking at the interview Verge gave Tiger Rag, I'm afraid he may be right. Sounds like we will sacrifice basketball for football. Only so much money to go around. This is depressing for basketball.

The LSU athletic department spits in the faces of their own basketball fans.

We'll have to see. If it is though, it is unless somebody wants to write a $10M check.

I think he has to let the clock run out on McM. Once there’s a new coach basketball donors will come back

Yes, this is obvious. Sacrifice Mens Bball for Football and Baseball. This is not hard to see.

The program can’t wait that long. Hopefully McMahon is tired of the punishment and humiliation and decides to leave on his own. He is a robot though so probably doesn’t feel strongly about it one way or another.

If you let him ride out the rest of his contract then you won't have to worry about donors. there won't be a program left to donate to. It would be equivalent to giving yourself the death penalty.

Or just get rid of all the other sports and put that money into basketball. Amirite.

at this point go get the very best high school "coach" and pay him about 300k but then put together a top notch gm staff to handle all the recruiting and nil stuff. we couldn't be much worse in the win column

In what other sport at LSU would the coach still be around with a 15-62 conference record in his/her fourth season?

LSU fans might have forgiven McMahon for such a terrible first year, though I would've thought some of his success with those players at Murray State would've carried over at LSU in year one.

LSU fans might even have thought the program was on the rise after his second season resulted in an NIT bid.

But to say the program has regressed the past two seasons is a gross understatement. There's NIL money to be found for the program. But ask yourself, if you were a men's basketball megadonor, would you be seeing ROI if McMahon is retained? And if you answer hell no, then you understand the talk about McMahon being retained because there's no money to be found but also the need to make a change to be competitive. No change = no new money to build a competitive under a coach who's shown no ability to raise the program out of last place, even given the additional resources he asked for before this season.

But if you look at the influx of $$$ in football from moving on from Kelly to hiring Kiffin, and look at what his hiring has done for the athletic department, the program and the fan base, then you understand why a coaching change -- and most important, the RIGHT change -- could/should bring in more money for men's basketball.

Not sure why the rantards keep repeating this. Mens basketball is the only other profitable sport besides football.
