NEW: Florida man who went missing on Valentine's Day, found 10 days later in "quicksand."

The vehicle belonging to 36-year-old Andrew Giddens was found near Vulcan Sand Plant.

After finding his vehicle, authorities had a very difficult time finding Giddens because he was covered up to his neck in mud.

Giddens had been without food and water and had experienced freezing temperatures for multiple days.

According to local reports, it took about three hours to finally free him from the mud.

"[Rescuers] have to take extra precautions to make sure they don’t get stuck in said material," said Putman County Sheriff’s Office Major D. Ussery.

"So yes, there were many apparatuses that were used to extract him from that, as you’ll be able to see through the pictures, which is something I have not seen in my 23-year career."

Giddens was airlifted to a trauma center where he was listed in critical condition. He is expected to recover.

Remarkable.

As soon as people let their guard down on quicksand, it struck.

I don’t think he was stuck for 10 days. The news said 2 days.

For as much of an issue as movies and TV made it...I don't know if I've ever seen quicksand in real life.

Supposed to be in this picture. He went missing after a break up. Not sure if this was a suicide attempt or an accident. He had trespassed there a few years ago, and vehicle was recognized from that.

quote:

In 2023, a deputy with PCSO said he had encountered Giddens trespassing on Vulcan Materials Company property at a different site and recognized the vehicle and the name on the registration.

That deputy said he contacted Vulcan and asked them to search the property to see if anything was disturbed.

According to PCSO, Vulcan employees were looking for Giddens on the expansive property and, after two days, he was located in shoulder-deep mud close to a borrow pit.

It says he "experienced freezing temperatures for multiple days."
Putnam County is near Gainesville, but they have had freezing temperatures in almost a month!

This area is maybe 5 miles from my farm. We've had 8 freezes in February alone.
