He located so much better last year and the book is out on him. You can’t hang that change up or fast ball. He has no command.

This dude literally diced up Arkansas in Omaha last year and now non-regional teams are making him look like trash.

I’m starting to question Yeskie bc the Texas pitching coach has not let his pitchers regress like Yeskie has. At least with Cowan

If you look back on it, teams figured him out about halfway through the season last year. The Arkansas game was the exception, not the rule.

So, you cant support him and still give an honest assessment? Nothing derogatory or non-factual about that statement.

I’m no expert, but from my view when Cowan was at his best he was throwing a ton of strikes, and had elite control to hit his spots.
He was able to get ahead in counts and then nibble at the edges of the zone forcing hitters to protect the plate and chase. He has just enough heat to blow a fastball by you, if you’re expecting a breaking ball, but he isn’t overpowering anyone.
Somewhere middle/end of last season, he lost a bit of control, started falling behind in counts, which forced him to start throwing middle of the plate and getting ROCKED.

I don’t know if it’s mental or physical, or what the solution is to get his control back. That’s a problem him and Yeskie must address, if he is going to be a high leverage pitcher.

Well our starting pitching gave up only 3 total runs in 27 innings so I think Yeskie is doing just fine.

Has the Texas pitching coach won two national titles at two separate schools?
And been apart of 4 different teams that’s gone to Omaha?

also you may want to consider the park he was pitching in Omaha.

I’ll pass on your concern to the pitching coach.

Cowans will be fine. All sec performer last year. Needs to dial his swag back in a couple notches.

So the book on Cowan says when he has command issues, he makes mistakes.... riveting analysis, a team should pay for insight like that.

Cowan's stuff requires hitting spots, and when he does not hit spots, he has to use more of the plate, which results in him getting touched up. This isn't rocket science.

The pitching coach whose staff has led the nation in strikeouts in both of his years at LSU

One more strikeout for Yeskie.

He was painting the corners initially, the umpire was only calling meatballs as strikes.

His changeup is a very good pitch. But, he can't just throw it 3+ times an AB.

He has to add pitches. He has to be willing to get his fastball mashed sometimes.

I think he's at the point where he needs to reinvent himself. If I were him, I'd probably add an even softer changeup that I can go to just keep things different. And, if there's any way to add a cutter or slider...even if it's not a great pitch he has to add it and throw it. Even still, his mix needs more fastballs.
