I don't remember him almost being traded. Does anyone else remember this?

Alontae Taylor
CB · Age: 27
While Super Bowl champions Riq Woolen, ?????Jaylen Watson????? and ?????Jamel Dean????? are among the biggest names at cornerback in this year's market, don’t sleep on Taylor, who nearly was dealt to the Bears at the trade deadline before contract talks stalled. He’s one of three players with 10+ passes defensed in each of the last four seasons -- along with Woolen and 2024 Defensive Player of the Year ?????Patrick Surtain II????? -- with 52 total during that span (fourth-most in the NFL). He has the versatility to play outside or in the slot. Now, Taylor’s payday is coming, and it could top $17 million a year.

I don't recall that either, but that is a huge misstep if Loomis had a trade partner for a guy with an expiring contract if the plan was not to meet his demands.

I took it as the deal with Chicago fell apart because Taylor's contract demands weren't met. Hard to trade someone on an expiring deal that won't extend.

That blurb says “contract talks” stalled, meaning Taylor wanted a certain amount of money from the bears and they didn’t meet it. So they called off the deal

Sounds like contract talks between Taylor and the Bears stalled and the trade couldn’t be completed. Can’t blame that on Loomis.

saints would need at least compensatory type value in draft pick in trade and bears needed an extension for that to make sense.

Yep, I missed that part
Also connects with proximo's post from the other day about Taylor saying his current team offered more than $10M.

He was almost dealt to the colts but the colts pivoted to Sauce Gardner

Not necessarily. if it was a late rounder for '26. We may get a better comp pick, plus we got an extra half year of a good player (not that it matters much)

Don’t remember reports but would make sense that we were listening to offers and that they’d be interested given he and DA’s familiarity

On another note. I think Zion Johnson is available and the saints should give him a hard look before they entertain the idea of etienne

My biggest beef with Taylor is that his tackling was just so half arse at times. It's like Bro, this is a game and not practice. Just don't throw a shoulder into some of these WR's and think you've got them.
He did start playing better as the season went on but I don't think you pay up for him. And if you do, you better be right.

11 missed tackles last year, that is 90th in the league. horrible.

If Taylor leaves, which I expect to happen. I’d take a long look at bringing Flott in to play the nickel. He should cost half of what Taylor will get and he’s a couple years younger. Had a string year this year and has only gotten better each year.

Flott I think had his best year. His floor so far seems to be 10 mil and that's before a bidding war starts. Would love to have him though he plays hard every play.
