ABS System coming to youth baseball

So this weekend, 2D apparently introduced the Win Reality Smart Park ABS system in their 14u division.
mixed reactions but coaches said it was perfect for inside/outside and they had it set up to call 1.5 balls off the plate each way.
Right now they set the vertical zone to average height of a player and adjusted it a little as needed between innings, just a hair and had it set the same 1.5 balls above/below mlb zone. So it was set for 5'6" as that is average 14u height
within a year it will scan the player as he stands in the box and auto adjust the height.
also right now it cant detect wind so for foul balls it only measure spin, direction, exit velo and launch so still need home plate umpire for that. Within 3 years WiN Reality said it would have that built in
within 5 years this will be standard for HS imo

Will never understand why people prefer human error costing teams games than having games be determined by play on the field and not the opinion of an umpire.

This system must be much cheaper than I assumed.

2D will have it implemented in all age divisions by end of next season prolly and yea I dont think its too bad.

Not happening in high school anytime soon. It’s a financial issue. Same reason HS can’t put coach to player on the pitcher. Seen as unfair financial advantage.

maybe, but the system would pay for itself within 3 years if it got rid of umpire behind the plate

The only reason to have this for youth baseball is to take heat off the 15 year old home plate umpire getting yelled at by the drunk parent for costing his kid a retarded looking oversized Jostens ring.

watches that tell you what pitch to throw. NFHS rules only allow coach to catcher

Do you know what’s required as far as infrastructure or utilities for these systems to be installed? If it’s going to be a state wide thing they have to take into account how shitty some of these fields are
I remember some fields not even having lights

it removes the inconsistency and its worth it for the exact reasons you said too
i mean the AI revelation in the game is coming to all levels, like it or not. Many posters will be pissed and whine about it but it is going to happen

not entirely sure but as far as 2d goes they really only play at really nice fields. PG trys to do the same. its not always possible but for the most part they use
ruston, bossier, johnny downs in Alexandria, the natchitoches park,
Spar, powercenter and OD johnson in SWLA,
Scott/youngsville/crowley/broussard/breauxbidge around lafayette
traction, central, zachary and oak villa in BR
not sure on hammond and nola areas though
so its all really nice parks

It’ll hit for the kids within 10 years

What's the rationale here?
Either make home plate bigger, change the rule book, move the pitching rubber closer, or some combination. But how do you just program something to not follow the rule book?

I'd say a ball off plate is totally within realm of reality of calling a strike zone. But, i say its good if players know exactly what a constant zone is and need to behave accordingly in game.
