I’m moving to the suburbs and there really isn’t a good country club close to my house. There is however a nice semi-private course that is less than a mile away. Membership at that course gets me unlimited range balls, access to some events, discounts on food and beverage, kidzone and free weekly clinics for my kids. I have to pay $16 every time I play, and that comes with a free beer if it is afternoon.

It’s a nice course and it seems like a pretty good deal, I know it’s not a full country club, but does anybody have any experience or insight being a member at a course like this? I know Sherwood was semiprivate for a while.

My club is semi-private. Members get tee time priority and unlimited golf for no extra fee. It’s totally fine.

Good to know, the $16 fee is kind of annoying but otherwise it seems like a good deal. I’m looking for a place I can play golf, but also where I can take my kids, have a few beers, chip and putt, that kind of vibe.

The rate for public play is $115 so the clientele is at least presentable

$16 is basically a cart fee. Sounds like a decent deal, assuming monthly dues aren't crazy.

That’s similar to Greystone in Denham, right? I’ve been considering joining there but I’m not 100% clear on the costs.

$400 per month for golf/cart/range/pool.

Edit: you could skip the cart plan and just pay when you play. That’s $100 per month.

I’m a member at High Meadow Ranch outside of Houston and love it. Country club course with no big initiation fee. You tend to see the same faces quite often so has a member feel as well.

As a non member it’s $120ish on the weekend so keeps some of the riff raff away. The only downfall is it is prob more crowded than most private clubs and somehow the riff raff still seek it out on occasion.

I’m not fat and enjoy walking so no cart fee.

I prefer walking as well, and I feel like HMR should have more walkers when it seems half the course is always CPO.

I joined a private golf club that wasn't very expensive to get into. I imagine it's close to what being in a semi-private club would be. They have 8 minute gaps between tee times, which isn't ideal. Course can get very busy. No real amenities outside of golf. I knew that going in and the price was right. Questions I would have.

Does the $16 include cart? If so that's a great deal. On top of membership, carts are $25 per person per round unless you pony up for the unlimited cart plan

Are there any food/drink minimums required?

Are there yearly range fees? I get unlimited access to range and practice facility, but there's a $175 fee I'm assessed each year for that.

This seems to be basically what this course is like that I’m joining. And the $16 charge is whether you walk or ride so walking won’t help

I played High Meadow Ranch recently first time in years so I didn’t really remember the course layout. Just remembered that it was great track. I signed up as a single on the last morning tee time. I was surprised by the total price with a small bag of balls. Drove out there from Houston and was planning on stopping at a fast food place to get some breakfast, didn’t see anything convenient so I ate at the course. Great spot and the full menu was available, Hispanic lady was really friendly. My main complaints are that I had to play with a fivesome, felt like I should have got a deal on my green fees. The other four were members who ended up being a great group to play with so it worked out well. The main complaint is that the greens were real slow, I came up short on every putt. The members were telling me about the dues and they seemed really reasonable. Would definitely join if I lived in that part of town.

Based on everything in this thread, it seems like I am definitely joining this club next to my house. I’m excited to play a lot more golf and more excited to be able to bring my kids out to the course to hit range balls and stuff all the time. Thanks for the information. It seems like this will be more than just a crappy version of the country club, which is what I was worried about!

Yea, that’s a complaint for me as well. They’re always in great shape but slow. $500/month with a one year commitment is a great deal though considering the course. Unlimited play w/cart I believe tho I usually walk, range included. I did not know they allowed 5 somes tho.

Yeah, the group in front was a 5 some and the group behind us as well. Also, I’ve never seen a green as big than the one on a Par 3, think it might of been Hole 9, I thought I hit a good shot, cleared the bunker in front but I barely made it on the green. Pin was back right up on a ledge, I had to hit my putter as hard as I could, somehow I made a two putt lmao. The members were saying that it’s the largest green in Texas?

Played your course recently. Really loved the vibe out there. Everything was great.
