It’s a logjam 4-10. We’re in good shape considering how rough we looked at the beginning of SEC play

.500 in SEC after what they looked like for most of march is very encouraging. Pitching went from last to middle of the pack which is great. Keep improving on the mound and get more consistency at the plate and this team can compete with anyone.

Next 2 series are going to be pivotal. 10-8 would be a great place to be going into the stretch.

Is that correct that Texass only has 11 strikeouts in SEC play?

ETA- I just checked the UT website and they have 111 k's in conference play.

Prepare for high winds in Oxford this weekend. Our pitchers and their hitters will make for a lot of swing and miss.

LSU & Ole Miss back in rankings this week at 22-11.

Let it play out but there is a chance LSU is back in top 10 by the end of the month….

Where do we find the conference stats for LSU as a team? I just heard Arkansas is hitting like .220 with a .330 OBP in conference play and it got me wondering

Fielding is the problem. The offense is scoring runs and the pitching is coming around. They can’t keep giving teams unearned runs. The pitching only gave up 8 earned runs all weekend in that tiny ball park but they scored 7 more unearned.

It's walks too.

LSU is top 5 in BA against, and 3rd most Ks, but also 3rd most walks.

In SEC games we rank 2nd in runs scored and 7th in ERA. That implies that we should be in contention for a top 4 team in the conference. The hidden stats that you don't see are that we lead the conference in errors and unearned runs. That's the biggest difference right now between this team and last years team. We make things very difficult for our pitchers

Even still, the pitchers are starting to put it together.

If we clean up the fielding to even slightly below average levels, or at the very least hope the errors happen at less impactful times, we could take off.

Ranked below a team we beat, ranked ahead of a team who beat us.

Really 4-13. That could flip in a weekend or 2.

Our fielding just is what it is—we’re bad and are going to be bad. Oh well. But a couple things that stand out to me that can be corrected are the number of free bases we’re giving up. We’ve walked 72, have 20 wild pitches (which leads the league by a lot) and 5 passed balls. Wild pitches + passed balls is 25. I think Vandy is 2nd with 20 total.

I think we may be 3rd or 4th in walks—I think 2 or 3 teams may have more than 72. But that’s 97 free bases total by the pitchers/catchers, which is completely unacceptable in just 12 games. But also fixable.

One thing that really stood out is Texas’s pitching’s K:BB ratio. It’s like 142:37 or something stupid. A few teams have kind of separated at the top, but there’s a lot of parity and there’s gonna be a ton of changes these next 6 weekends. There’s gonna be a lot of teams fighting to host regionals and supers all the way to the end. Should be exciting to watch play out.

Is Jay going to give Yamin a real chance at catcher as the current 5 passed balls are going to be problematic in future SEC games. shite, let him play 1b too.
