Ford F150 - 2.7L vs 3.5L

I’m sure this will devolve into a just buy a F250 Diesel but figured I’d still get the board’s opinion on the 2.7L.
This would be for light hauling & minimal if any towing. We have the 3.5L in our Expedition Max - am I going to notice the difference?

You won’t notice a difference.

You will notice a difference. 3.5L all the way.

If you are concerned, go with the 5.0. 2.7 and 5.0 are both more reliable than the 3.5
No problem towing our tritoon with the 2.7

I had the 3.5 in my 2018 and now the 5.0 in my 2024. Both have plenty of power. My brother has the 2.7 in his 2019 and swears by it. I think they are all pretty solid motors. If I had to choose, (which i just did recently) I would go with the 5.0 coyote.
If the 5.0 is out of the question then I would choose the 3.5 over the 2.7 just because...lol.

The 3.5 sounds "better" IMO. I have an Edge Sport with the 2.7 with almost 240k miles on it. Still very strong and smooth. Several trucks in our fleet at work have the 2.7 as well, and they're plenty quick and torquey enough while moving small to medium load trailers

You will notice a significant difference.

Damn. I had no idea Ford still made a V8 for half tons.
Hmmmmm…

Seriously?
Meanwhile, GM is going back to the 5.7 liter.

Yep.

We had the 5.7L in our Suburban. Might be an outlier but that thing was in the shop 7 times in 1 year - less than 5 years old and 70,000 miles.

I didn’t think the 5.0 was that exspensive vs the Eco Boost?

Ive got all three
2018 f150 reg cab swb 4x4 5.0. 35” tire
2019 F150 crew cab 4x4 3.5l. 33” tire
2022 f150 extra cab 2.7 2wd. Factory tires
5.0 sounds the best. Seems to have most power/pulling. Worst mpg 17.2mpg
3.5 is fast. Excellent get up and go. Most fun to drive 18.1mpg
2.7 does great riding/cruising. Not as much speed/go. 22 mpg until you hook small trailer and 4 wheeler and it tanks
Would definitely go 3.5 unless you are wanted to mod out/build a V8

They did in 2024 when I bought mine. It's just a regular engine, none of that turbo stuff.

I’m not sure which is the coyote motor (351 ci I think) because I can’t translate to communist, but that’s what I have in my truck and that motor is outstanding.
