The RHCP doc on netflix basically ignores John Frusciante

Do you Hillel Slovak was that much better?
I understand he was the initial explorer of their funk-punk sound... but I've always thought Frusciante was special and I don't think Slovak could've created anything close.

The title of the documentary may give you a clue as to why.
The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother, Hillel
Better? no.
Preference? yes.

Slovak was revolutionary. John F even says in the fricking documentary that he was just trying to “play like Hillel”

I may be in the minority but I find the RHCP catalog post-Hillel much better than with him.
I've always heard the other members talk about him, people post about him etc, but with this doc I was able to actually see who he was and what/how he played. He was good, and maybe it was just the stage of the career they were in at that time, but they are so much better from Blood Sugar forward.

Yeah, and they didn't even say a single word about klinghoffer what's up with that!??
it's almost like you missed the whole entire purpose of why the doc was even created

Don't worry man I already RA'd for this to be removed.

I used to play with Sherman one of their super early guitarists. Did it mention him at all?

It's because their sound completely changed. John says in the documentary that people say that he started playing differently for BSSM, but he says he was really just playing like what he thought Hillel would play like. I don't really understand this because the pre-Frusciante albums are nothing like the ones with him, especially BSSM onward. Maybe Frusciante is just trying to be nice andhonor Hillel, but the man has his own style, and maybe what he's saying is that he imagines that Hillel would have gone in the same direction as he did in his guitar style and songwriting.

Frusciante's solo stuff is really awesome if you like his voice. It seems that people either love or hate it, but I like his voice a lot.

Right. When he said that, it seemed contrived to honor Hillel bc they sound nothing alike.
I just didn't feel like arguing

Nope. Because I agree. I think the majority here will.

Was gonna say this too.

Maybe it’s just me, but Frusciante coming in at the very tail end and no mention of Chad Smith seems to have left the door open for a continuation at some point..

Doubt it. This was all done by HS's brother. He apparently did some really weird stuff in promoting it and pissed the band off. I think Flea even said something about it. They've kinda distanced themselves from it.

No, Slovak wasn't as good as Frusciante.
