PGA Tour in bad financial shape to layoff 300 and reduce tournament purses

If tweet fails to load, click here. Timmy Turrell is a verified producer for the Golf Channel, ESPN's PGA golf events, and Fox 1's golf tournaments so this is definitely not a fly by night account. His current position is he is the Features Producer and ISO Director at Golf Channel. Prior to the role he was LIV Golf's TV producer from 2023-2024 before he took the job at the Golf Channel so his post is definitely NOT speculation. I wonder if the PGA is going to be cutting all international events (announced Hawaii) since he is the ISO Director (Golf Channel's international events).

The guy has 570 followers and his entire account is him retweeting stuff and/or responding to random verified accounts talking shite, mainly TDS-level posts at politicians/conservative media members....so basically he presents as a reddit poster
This did not need its own thread

A features producer and ISO producer would have absolutely no inside knowledge about anything

Tell me why you think this position would give him inside knowledge on this subject? So he works in film production, cool

That guy is just parroting the “no you’re the one with the problem!” counter-narrative the LIV bots have been throwing around since yesterday.
Maybe it’s true maybe it isn’t. Regardless it lacks any sort of context, and without context it’s meaningless. The pga tour has been very upfront about overhauling its tournament schedule and competition structure and implementing SSG’s vision. Part of the overall restructure is it’s no longer a non profit, which means the business has to be thought about differently.

I don’t know if there’s a poster on this site that’s posted more fake news than MrLSU.
It’s like he takes random Twitter comments that post something cryptic and takes it as a fact.

His ISO Director role gives him real seniority and operational insight into how PGA schedule changes would hit Golf Channel production. He'd likely in his Director role he would get told about event cutbacks affecting Golf Channel's workload well before public announcement. I'm just saying that someone in his position would likely receive this information before the general public finds out.

Either the Tour has money (it does) or it doesn't.
If you're pro LIV, then you can't make a "PGA Tour is broke argument." The basis of the LIV league forming was that the PGA Tour had a bunch of money and were being cheap with it. I believe that. But you can't make that argument then all of a sudden the PGA Tour is broke after even more investments and new TV deals.

he didn't say anything about PGA schedule changes. He spoke about PGA staffing and cuts to tournament purses. No, him being a production director for the golf channel would not give him inside insight about the budget planning for the PGA Tour unrealated to their work with the Golf Channel

Had he said that the PGA was cutting back on production staff for the opening rounds of golf tournaments the Golf Channel covers, then sure. But that's not what his comment dealt with. He said the PGA was cutting 300 from their own staff and reducing tournament purses. No, he does not have the seniority to receive that information, and if he did, he wouldn't be blabbering about it, non-anonymously, on twitter and still have a job with the Golf Channel the next day
Most likely story? He used to work for LIV, and a LIV bot already posted the same thing earlier in the day. He parroted what he saw show up on his twitter algorithm. Seriously, go read through his replies in general. The guy is a lunatic.

No surprise to me. Half the tournaments have a shite field and thru expect top sponsors to pay premium rates.
